Careful with syringing here, some of the docs are very rough, and last time one doctor almost blew my head off,

I went yesterday to see an excellent ear nose and throat specalist(I have an inner ear infection) He was reccomended, he has a small camera and he shows you on the monitor what is in your ear.

He was very very good, he also cleaned the wax from my other ear whilst I was there, was amazed at the crap inside, ( but I have ear problems)

He is Dr Memhet, Nr to the private Hospital By Pia Bella. tnis is is num. 0392 816 1160 or 0533 872 0872

Far better and safer than syringing. 120 lira, and seen and treated within 30 mins. Good Luck, (what was that you said)

WARNING:

Before even contemplating to have your ears syringed, the earwax must be softened, for which you need 'Cerumel' drops for a minimum of three days.

This normal procedure to minimise the risk of damaging the 'Timpanum' when the ear is syringed!

Mikeythespark , as long as you know for sure that it is ear wax , forget about ear drops , best thing you can do is this

1 / warm up some oil any oil apart from engine oil {joke }

2 / Lie on your side and instill warm oil into ear , lie there for awhile so that the wax can absorb the oil DO NOT put cotton wool into ears

3 / Do same to other ear if affected

4 / do this 4 times a day for about 4-5 days

If no better , then refer yourself to the GP

Simbas,

you either have nursing experience ,or very good mum!!

The drops he was given for ear wax is Otex, he has been doing that since Monday, no change,he says it does not hurt so no infection I think but just feels like there is a blockage. The other ear did have infection and chemist prescribed Polydexa, this has cleared up, no more pain. do you think the Otex is same as oil as it looks and feels and smells like I could cook with it Haha!!!

Johnylee, I know the clinic you are talking about, been there myself, what do you think Simbas?

Yeh , i used to be a Practice Nurse , we used to syringe as a last resort . The oil treatment works the best in my experience , as sometimes the wax is soft in the front and remains hard at the back , hence lying down and letting the wax absorb the warmed oil . The Otex is not the same as oil , it has Hydrogen Peroxide in it . And should not be used if you have had a history of Perf ear drum , operations on the ear or recent ear infections or eczema

Good luck , Simbas

I was once told by an ear specialist in the UK the worst thing you can put in your ear is olive oil ..

It used to be olive oil when I was a kid .. Always a bottle warming by the coal fire ..

So who do you believe ???

I have been the worlds worst for oils and drops in ears, ,you should put as little as possible in ears, I have learnt the hard way, I very often syringed my own and cleared the wax after softening first, but then you have the problem of residue of water in your ear, will not bother most people.

But if do you have a history of ear peoblems then there is every chance that droplets of water will remain in there in that nice warm cosy enviroment and grow bacteria.

You should also be extra careful when showering, swimming, diving etc. When we waterski we often wear headbands that go over ears, if you fall hard against one ear the force of the water can perforate your eardrum.

The doctor yesterday removed the wax very carefully with tiny surgical tools. He was first class,

I remember in the UK when both my ears went bad at the same time, and the doctor said somthing to me that I did not catch onto straight away, THE ONLY THING YOU SHOULD PUT IN YOUR EAR IS YOUR ELBOW. try it

Sparkys ear miraculously 'popped' yesterday evening and suddenly he could hear!!!!! (where does the wax go???)

Will remember all advise for future reference.

Funny thing is though, Monty the dog now has a bad ear!!!!! They say dogs and owners become alike over time, Haha !!!

Perhaps he didn't have wax in the first place , or perhaps he had Otitis Media { inf } that hadn't cleared up !! mysteries eh ?

Well as long as he is ok , that's the main thing
