Having just spent a week in NC 5th-12th July the following are plus points. Riverside Alsancak- Great place to go with the kids we had a range from 9-18 years old. kids loved the pool area and the barbecue night round the pool, the staff were great and always smiling/joking. Drinks were a little pricy at 8YTL for a spirit mixer and 4YTL for a coke however, but overall very impressed. Ambience Karaoglanoglu- Wonderful atmosphere sat out on the rocks and the food was excellent. JK's Lapta great family bar good bar meals with generous portions and really great drinks prices. Lapta Water Park Great for a half day, 5 big slides plus kiddies slides, reasonable admission prices of 15YTL( 10YTL for kids) Abbey Bell Tower Restaurant good food not cheap although they did pick 9 of us up and took us back. The view at sunset is stunning! St Hilarion Castle we went early in the morning and ended up climbing to the top. Fantastic history well worth a visit. Kozan restaurant (I think) on the mountain road between St Hilarion and Karsiyaka. Lovely lady and great food in the middle of nowhere. Buffavento Restaurant by 5 finger mountain. Great food and views. Acemenya restaurant in Alsancak lovely food reasonable prices.

lincsman, next time you are coming out check out some of the smaller, local restaurants. As for the country, I for one will never return to England. This is a superb place to live as long as you adapt. So many people do not and try to make the place into Little Britain.

Thanks to everybody for their nice replies. To Cyprus is Home, we will do the smaller local restaurants more next time. I think because we had brought people out who had never been, we wanted to show the places we'd been before, that we knew were good. To Tracy F have a great time!

Here's my recommendation that sums up the beauty and quirkiness of NC! If you want to visit and eat in Kyrenia old harbour, you can ignore the main car park (though 2TL for the day is a bargain!), carry on to the roundabout and turn right down towards the Castle, take the hairpin right (careful!) just after the Anglican church, carry straight on down towards the sea, don't turn left in front of the castle. Park for free right by the sea and go to the little restaurant there. The owner is TC and his wife European (but not British), we nicknamed her Rula Lenska! In May we had a couple of lovely lazy lunches there at lower prices than the main harbour restaurants (and without all the pestering !). On our last day we went back there for an Efes and then wandered around the town. We went back to them an hour later, sat down and asked 'Rula' what food they had. 'Nothing' she replied, 'Oh I'm sorry, my husband does all the cooking and when he saw you leave after your beers, he thought you would not be eating and has gone to the market. I don't know how long he will be'. Their big old dog was lazing in the sun, while a couple of locals played backgamon. 20 mins later he was back with some wonderful fish which he grilled to perfection, with excellent Cyprus chips, salad and very good bread! Delicious! Then it was coffees and brandy's on the house. (coffee for me, being the driver!). That to me sums up NC, laid back, friendly, wonderful food! p.s. from our photos of their menu: octobus 15tl cin-tonik 5tl sis-kebap 15tl lampchop 15tl salat 5tl cips 5tl bira 4tl I hope they do well, so if you're a tourist or resident, these are the people I would like to see being supported. A truly 'Shirley Valentine' moment!

Great Post RobnJo, you're right it does sum up exactly why people love coming to the North of Cyprus and why we should keep promoting everything that is good. I totally agree with Cyprus is Home that too many people moan about everything and want a Little Britain abroad. "When in Rome" I say, I can't wait until I'm able to live in NC.

Hi Mysteron - The abbey Ball Tower will be a great place for your Ruby Wedding !! We have got to know the guys that run it quite well now, and we are going out to Cyprus tomorrow - do you want me to get them to hold you the end table for you (overlooking sea, abbey etc - best table in restaurant) ?. I know they will certainly make sure you are very well looked after.

Hi Mysteron, in September you should be OK for bookings although if you do what we did, we went up to Bellapais Abbey in the day for a quick look round a couple of days before and booked with the guys when we were up there. I would recommend booking a time so you catch the sunset and afterwards go outside and see the glass blower at work. I can't remember his name but he will make virtually any animal to order. His skill is amazing!

What a lovely post this is. Think I will go to the Abbey Bell Tower with my hubby and not the girls - what do you think? Lincsman - you said they picked 9 of you up. Were you staying very far from the restaurant?

Hi Tracy - I think they will pick you up and drop you from pretty much anywhere - they really are a very hospitipal and friendly group. The food is all freshly prepared to a good quality as well, and the view from the tables on the balcony is simply stunning !
