Glad I am Scots then arry cause everybody loves us!!!!!!!

Nobody in the world more arrogant than the Brits if truth be told, we expect the whole world to speak our language and make little or no effort to learn the language of other countries, except for the paltry bit of French / German we learned at school or the pleasantries we have picked up here in NC. Just my opinion of course.

Chris you are right of course . We are lazy when it comes to learning languages etc , but this is a football thing . They hate us and we hate them. Simple ! It will never change ,it's always been that way. After we beat them this afternoon , life will be a little sweeter. !

Quite agree,

Have supported England up to now, but now the English have started all this usual stuff about the wars ,ve haf vays of making you talk ,Huns, shove the bayonet up em ,nice little songs about bombing people. I am moving over to neutral and just want to watch a good football game, like the 99% of people watching the cup in the rest of the world

Didnt see the South Africans ranting on about the Boer or Zulu wars. 'they dont like the Assegai up em, the English dont'

teatime, would that be remember the Belgr, no wait a minute. I think the whole thing is a farce, I actually agree with Dutch.

I have been asked hundreds and I do mean hundreds of times why the Scots refuse to support England even though we are british.

Between this so called banter and the media that goes into hyperdrive whenever England scrape through, is it any surprise we get fed up.

Not to mention 196X, I refuse to finish that date but I am absolutely certian everyone will know what it is. I suppose being born that year, remind me to thank my parents again, I suppose I am slightly biased.

As has been pointed out, as british we seem to think we can do and say whatever we want and nobody should get upset after all we do have the empire, wait another minute, where did the Raj go ?

This thread was started as a "football " thread . So why are people talking politics ? You are obviously not football fans or you would understand what it's all about . If you were true football fans you would know about the chants at games that make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck !! It's an English football thing !! No other country has it , it's uniquely English . The great Bill Shankly once said . "Football isn't life or death..................it's more important than that " !!

Paul - message 14 - like teatime, I fear the answer is 'yes'. During an evening out last night, I actually heard someone chanting "Two World Wars and One World Cup..................." and this, incidentally, from someone who certainly should have known better.

arrry, that doesn't make you a football for or not as you stated, it makes you an english fan and in all honesty, I thought this was just banter as it is on the other thread about the same thing.

Paul...that's what i am on about ! It's an English thing , and if you don't follow football as intensely as a lot of English people do , then you will not understand . With some people it is banter , i agree, but others just want to have a go ....as usual.Don't get me wrong i know how intense the rivalry is in Scotland , i have only been to one " old firms " game but it was a match i will always remember for the atmosphere ...and the wicked chants that goes with the game .I didn't hang about after the game , i did a Linford Christie !!!

arrry, as Chris and many others will tell you and as you allready know by your post, an old firm game goes way beyond football, banter, politics or anything else. And the songs are to be honest about as insulting as you can get in a stadium, I think (because I haven't been to all of them, before anyone states it).

The atmosphere is unbelievable and I am certain the match this afternoon will have similarities, especially for the English, might even be loud enough to drown out those bloody annoying vuvuzelas.

I genuinely hope the English (mortal enemies) can overcome the Jerries (Could be considered a nicer term or not depending on your understanding) but if they do, the Argies are likely to be next and if you can manage to somehow get by them I will have to turn off the TV I'm afraid because the media hype would be more than I could stand, I am sure you can understand what I mean.

Believe it or not we even have some Danish and Swedish co-workers intending to join us in the TV/Conference/Smoking/Coffee room this afternoon although I think they are in for a shock, a few of the guys have been chanting Inga-land, Inga-land and I think they might have missunderstood it to be another type of show.

"I am afraid that if it goes to penalties you will not have the exeptional efficiency that the Germans have", I heard that on the TV the other night. Still not sure how it applies to football but sounded really intelligent coming from an ex-footballer/almost brain surgeon.

Who said we dont follow football as intensely as the english. If as you say you have been to an 'old firm' game you will know thats not true.

You are quite right about the old firm games. Maybe we, who have been brought up in the west of scotland with the rivalry which for a lot of people was akin to hatred ,find the English atitude towards a football game the very thing that we have tried to get rid of and put behind us.

The old firm rivalry was less to do with football and more to do with religion, and similarily the remarks and comments made about the Germans or any other race ,appear to be less to do with football and more to do with a nastiness similar to the Catholic /Protestant stuff.

Also, if England has to go back 70 years to find something to harp on about, its a very poor show.Have you really done nothing to shout about since the War?

Girne.....it is only true for the "old firm " games . The rest of the Scottish teams are very poorly supported Some of the attendances are lower than some of our non league games in England . The last time i looked i think only two teams out of the top flight made four figures at the turnstiles. It doesn't mean to say they are not passionate about their football, because i know they are . By the way if you had been to a Germany England game you would have heard the Germans chanting " is your grandad still alive " !! or is he still in Belsen !! So do not be fooled by the non football people on here . As for your last sentence , you need to get out more .

arrry, the only reason attendance is so poor at Scottish games is because we can't afford to go after we have paid the English taxes which are needed to pay for the excess on German pensions. Only joking !

I make it around 70 minutes to kick off, by now, if I was at home and not at work I would be parking my backside down on the most comfortable bar stool I could find at my favourite bar "THE FEZ, CATALKOY" sorry couldn't help advertising and getting oprepared for what hopefully be the best game the 2 teams have played so far in this world cup.

Shouldn't you guys be doing the same instead of disputing who is the best and worst?

'By the way if you had been to a Germany England game you would have heard the Germans chanting " is your grandad still alive " !! or is he still in Belsen !! So do not be fooled by the non football people on here .'

If you heard that then fair comment ,however I can only comment on what I personally have read on here.

The Germans you say chanted that are indeed morons not just for chanting it but for not knowing there own history.Belsen was not a POW camp. To be fair it cant be that often as I am sure' The Sun' would have been highly delighted to translate for us who dont speak german.

We in Scotland are a lot worse than the English ,you only go back 70 and 95 years and against foreigners. Some of our lot sing and shout about events 320years ago as if it was last week with a hatred against our own people.

Me and the Germans have a shared history,Germans are called Huns, as were me and my mates when I was younger and before I saw the light.
