knowing the wind is going to get trapped, it's best to stop creating the wind. In my case, fatty foods cause my stomach to start churning - that and eat all you can Chinese buffets!

Dear Nurseawful,

In many continental countries dill oil is a common natural remedy for the problem. Several drops of dill oil in a tsp of honey taken after each meal should solve the problem. Not sure if the oil is available in pharmacies in TRNC. If not, try to make a very strong fresh dill infusion, add honey and drink after each meal.

Get better soon!

What about prunes? Never had trapped wind due to an operation, but I think prunes get most things moving!

Chris. been there done that - it's worse than the actual op! If you can get it here - Andrew's liver salts works wonders and just keep moving around - it will go in a day or two! Glad you're ok = keep laughing! that's by far the best remedy! Maggie x

Chris hope you make a speedy recovery, ask any of the locals and they will all tell you mint tea, just boil some dried or fresh mint in water and drink hot, it does help but as you know time is the healer.

Hi Chris, Try some Bicarbonate of Soda mixed with a little milk. Would also suggest a massage.

Good luck, hope the pain of it eases for you soon.

Hi Liz,

Yes you are correct it is the anaesthetic gases. they actually wouldn't let me out until I had passed a fair bit of wind but I knew by posting this that I would get cheered up..

Some brilliant suggestions though, and they certainly brought a grin to my face, don't want to actually laugh as it a bit tender yet.

Teresa I already drink mint and lemon tea every day but the one that was recommended by the Dr was fennel tea and it worked.

Johnnylee are you trying to finish me off?

Maggie Gripe water! Didn't think you could get that any more as it was taken off the market years ago as it contained alcohol!!!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions they cheered me up but I have made a note of the more unusual ones in case some poor soul needs help at a later date.

Simbas yes I do remember that bloody awful peppermint water we used to give the poor patients i can still smell it!

Chris

Finally Arrry don't be so common!!!! f...t indeed.

Drum your fingers constantly for about 10 mins under your bellybutton, the tapping action helps the gas on its way.

Oh yeah, get a peg for your nose.

As it's Trapped wind, not constipation I assume and if it's quite high. i.e. around the Sternum/low chest then drink a glass of lemonade (preferably cold) fairly quickly it will make you burp and releive the wind!

It's always worked for me.......

Hi, know how painful this, had the same after a recent colonoscopy so saw you post and hunted on google, found this, not sure if you will want to try it????

"However; this is what my grandmother gave me when I had a stomach problems. One tablespoon of baking soda, with one half teaspoon of fresh bought or recently purchased cream of Tatar. Also, a heating pad or warm compresses help, staying in a fetal position for 15 may help."

I have to say that massaging my stomach did seem to help but understand that this can be painful.

Good luck and best wishes.
