British shoppers are to be banned from buying eggs by the dozen under new regulations approved by the European Parliament. For the first time, eggs and other products such as oranges and bread rolls will be sold by weight instead of by the number contained in a packet. Until now, Britain has been exempt from EU regulations that forbid the selling of goods by number. But last week MEPs voted to end Britain’s deal despite objections from UK members.Or that a bag of white rolls has 322g inside instead of half a dozen. The rules will not allow both the weight and the quantity to be displayed. Last night, Britain’s Food Standards Agency said it was opposed to the move, putting the UK on a potential collision course with Brussels. It could be the first test of David Cameron’s pre-Election promise to stand up for Britain’s interests in the EU. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1289882/EU-ban-selling-eggs-dozen-Shopkeepers-fury-told-food-weighed-sold-kilo.html

RE msg 3, the nurse: (...) Time the UK told Belgium and to go take a hike with its straight bananas and carrots etc, (...) => What has Belgium got to do with this, Chris?! And straight bananas, carrots etc? This rule has been abolished for quite some time now!

Re : Msgs 1&2, Wanderer, before I even seen the article I knew it iwas from Daily Mail. For years now it has been writing similar nonsense about the "alleged" EU crimes against UK sovereignty. The tabloid was exposed by Stephen Fry in one of his QI programmes as telling the public absolute "porkies". Most of these publications about "EU lunacy" are simply not true. Cyprurishome, in the above mentioned countries they sell by numbers and weight: I can buy e.g. a carton on which it is said - 3 eggs and has weight in grammes, which is convenient as it tells me how big they are which is important in recipes or when backing etc. BTW, I have never seen in UK 1, 2 or 3 eggs sold, minimum amount one can buy is 6 and in some supermarkets 10. So I buy 6, use 1 or 2, throw the rest, what a waste! I wish DM dedicate their time to the real issues of Britain's traid interests!

What a load of old 'tosh', haven't they got anything better to do????? They're making one major c''''k up of the EU. Bringing all these changes in, at the cost of the growers, wholesalers and retail outlets. Not forgetting the mammoth wages of the people sitting in their little offices devising all these changes.

I'm in Brussels tomorrow as a guest of a few MEP's so I'll pose the question however, my main objective will be to try and extract the 'bullshit' reasons on why the EU reneged on its promise for direct trade post 2004 referendum. Wish me luck! Richard PS If there are any other questions that you wish me to ask please email me off board in the next hour.
