| People in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are going to polls on Sunday (today) for local elections. Voting started at 8:00 in the morning and some 164,000 voters will cast votes until 6:00 p.m. to elect 28 mayors and 268 aldermen. Turkish Cypriots will also elect a deputy of the 50-seat Turkish Cypriot parliament as a seat became vacant after Dervis Eroglu was elected President in April. If the ruling National Unity Party (UBP) wins that seat, the number of its deputies will rise to 25. Results are expected to be announced around midnight. courtesy of http://www.worldbulletin.net/news_detail.php?id=60548 |
