Does anyone know a website where you can view the results?

You might find the results here but may not appear until after midnight.

Local elections: all except Inonu and Catalkoy remained same.

Famagusta election for parliament: the daughter of the President won by 8 votes.

Resmiye Canaltay: 11937 votes

Huseyin Angolemli: 11929 votes

So I guess Dr Atakara is still the the Mayor in Alsancak? If so does that mean the Muhtars stay the same? or are their a different set of results for them?

Thanks ismet,

I would think it stays the same, but then Im probably wrong?

Interesting how so few people on here dont seem to be bothered about the local elections?

After all if you do live here then it makes a big difference as to who your local Muhtar is !

Just goes to show really !

Re Msg 4

The presidents daughter won by 8 votes. With a vote so close I assume that there is/was a recount ???

Or am I just being cynical ?

msg. 9

There are some objections to the result and calls for a recount. what is worse there is some argument about vote rigging in the last two boxes that effectively changed the end result. The elections are under the control of the Supreme Court, so we will see how they will deal with the objections. First the local election board made of Famagusta judges will deal with it and there is appeal to the higher body made up of High court judges. I expect the dust will settle in a couple of days.

AJ,

My reference was only for the Mayors, no idea about the mukhtars.

msg 6.

Tootie, I think many people had other things on thier minds last night after the football, we will see today how many people do read this thread and possibly comment on it h, however I would point out that as with many other things in NC, we as foreigners have no input to the elections so us showing interest would be another one of those debates on the good and bad things in life that make us (british in my case) sound like we are whinging all the time.

Last minute news:

There has been a recount and some "cancelled votes" reinstated. The first result has been overturned and now Huseyin Angolemli won by 2 votes. So he has to thank me for my vote, if I voted against him it would have been a tie and it would have been "Heads or tails"

msg. 13,

I have no connection with the election board and I do not have the answer for you but from what I heard on the tv, the outgoing mayor was a member of UBP and the incoming one was an independent. Does that help?
