Chris,

Tesco our local store, have a wheelie bin in which donations of pet food can be placed, which is then collected by our local dogs home. It is always very well subscribed to.

Has anyone thought of asking Lemar if they would allow the same? The British in particular

are usually very generous to such schemes!

KAR volenteers have a stall set up outside Lemar on a friday where they have one of the Lemar shopping trollies in which shoppers can donate dog/cat food as well as pasta and rice which is then used to feed the animals at the rescue centre.

Food items can also be left at their office in Girne.

I'm not sure if they are at Lemars every friday though as I know they are desperate for more volenteers to help out on the stall.

I would urge ALL posters on this board, to consider making a small donation to

KAR. What is an unimportant sum to most of us, could make a significant difference

to the care and treatment of stray and unwanted animals. Please support this most worthwhile

of charities. Please send Chris your donation NOW!

The web site will be updated as soon as I receive the monies, everytime we reach £100 the money will be transferred to KAR as I think they would prefer small regular amounts to keep going, rather than two lots twice a year.

Thank you again

The KAR website has now been updated and we currently stand at £105 sent , and £30 in the pot.

I know that everybody is feeling the pinch at the moment, but if we could make another £100 before Christmas, it would be great.

Hi there all supporters of KAR,

I am also known as 'Confused of Alsancak' and this time I wonder why I cannot bring up a site at http://karaid.t35.com/ but only 'Index of'?

I also wonder why those who wish to donate to this worthy cause do not use:

http://www.kyreniaanimalrescue.org where the charity's UK bank details are listed and the phone number and address of the Girne office are listed.

See you all at Club Zeus at 10.00pm on Saturday December 6th at The Grand Christmas Bazaar'.

Picture this: A mother hound dead in a bush-leaving 3 pups only 3 months old.

I reported it to KAR as did other people. I was asked to feed them until I could grab them and take them to KAR as they were overlooking Karsiyaka beach and out of KAR jurisdiction. I fed them daily and when I had to go to UK for a week asked KAR to step in so they didn't starve. No response. Friends took over the feeding.

Last week I managed to grab one pup which was injured and took him to KAR. I was asked not to capture the others as KAR was full. What was I supposed to do with the others who were in danger from the hunters? They have since disappeared.

Today(sunday-hunt) I saw a hound and I thought it was old as it walked so slowly. I went to him and eventually petted him. His eyes were dead. I wanted to grab him and take him to KAR but knew it was no use.

They are overrun and wouldn't have helped him.

Hi Wyn

Well we did raise £135.00 and get a mention in Cyprus today for our efforts!

The reason we were collecting is so KAR could construct more kennels, ........etc

You cant please everybody.

Maybe if people went onto the KAR website they can see the details of donating to their UK bank account, which they transfer to NC.

Thanks again for all those that helped.

Msg to wyn and chris, I am looking after 3 dogs and cat and this afternoon Kevin dragged another abandoned dog out that had fallen into an empty swimming pool, I rushed to Pertev from Arapkoy to get some tranquilliser to sedate the dog to get him in the car and down to Pertev for treatment, he treated him and he is back here with me and the other dogs, he has had stitches and a broken leg, and is laying on a quilt in my lounge howling with pain and has to go back everyday this week, so to all you £10 donation dogooders that sit smugly in your houses and do sweet f.a. think about those of us who get off our backsides and do more.

You make me sick with your self bloody praise and patronising platitudes, I have spent more than you lot put together saving dogs...vet bills, buying kennels, food, quilts etc etc, KAR can't even be bothered to take these poor mites in....end of....

So you think you are the only hero, I can introduce you to a lot more people that care as much as you about animals and have done as much as you and more and they work voluntarily for KARS. I know all about vets bills and so does my neighbour. Only the other day we took a feral cat that was ultimately diagnosed with liver disease to the vets and we will spend as much as is needed to give it a decent life. So please do not try and preach to me about 'self praise and patronising platitudes'.

Enjoy your evening.

what do you suggest KAR should do if the kennels are full to the brim with stray dogs and they simply cannot take anymore animals? The vets will not put down stray animals. Stop slagging KAR off, they do a good job as best as they can and most of the voluntary workers don't come on these boards bragging what they do for animals, they just get on with it , not like some.

KAR should euthanise more of these poor defenceless creatures, they have vets so please do not tell me euthanasia does not go on, of course it does, quietly maybe but it happens...if you are a charity you do not turn away an animal..end of. I do not brag about what I do, I have been helping these creatures for ages and last year and said nothing, I only came in here to answer AJ who slags of the brits for not doing enough...there are many like me who do stuff for the dogs, even Pertev is treating the our latest casualty for free..bless him...

It has been brought to my attention that RSPCA inspectors are required to kill animals as part of their training. I have heard that this is done both with animals in a slaughterhouse and also shooting dogs, for example, in animal shelters.

The following link has relevant extracts from your Watchdog magazine;

http://www.webtribe.net/~watchdog/watchdog73.htm

Can you please comment on this practise and whether this is still part of your inspectors training?

-------------------

Thank you for your recent enquiry expressing your concerns about the euthanasia of animals by student inspectors.

The training of student inspectors in all routes (by firearms and injection methods) of euthanasia is essential. While nobody becomes an inspector to euthanase animals, sometimes this is the kindest and only option, particularly with animals that are sick or injured. It is also sometimes necessary to euthanase those animals for which appropriate homes are not available and which would t

and which would therefore endure long-term suffering through deprivation of basic needs (as far as domestic animals are concerned, this in itself reduces the space for an animal that could be rehomed).

All 'initial' euthanasia performed by staff members must be supervised by a veterinary surgeon to ensure that animals are not subjected to unnecessary stress. Where appropriate, sedation is used but the temperament of the animal is assessed before the process is undertaken.

I would like to assure you that all students are assessed for their competence before they are allowed to perform euthanasia unsupervised. The ethics of human destruction are an integral part of the training process and euthanasia is one of the most difficult areas for new inspectors to come to terms with. All students are trained in the theory and practice on prosthesis before being allowed anywhere near a live animal.

Sadly, it is often left to organisations like the RSPCA to 'pick up the pieces' from irresponsible pet owners who allow their animals to breed indiscriminately or who abandon their animals when surplus to their requirements.

I hope that the above information clarifies this matter and alleviates any concerns that you may have.

Thank you for contacting the Society.

Kind regards

It is also sometimes necessary to euthanase those animals for which appropriate homes are not available and which would therefore endure long-term suffering through deprivation of basic needs (as far as domestic animals are concerned, this in itself reduces the space for an animal that could be rehomed). thats from the rspca

Maybe all of you liberal dogooders who just donate should read, digest and think about this in an intelligent and interlectual way...not easy maybe but do try!

deecyprus4,

Msg57. Madam would you please desist from your ,foul mouthed abuse of a lady who did nothing more than to give up her time to raise money for an animal sanctuary, in a country

thousands of miles away from her home.

I personally believe that KAR act entirely in good faith, to what is quite clearly an overwhelming problem for them, and I am equally satisfied that Chris did everything that she could to raise money in the UK, to assist them. Her activities were beyond reproach. I believe that you owe the people of KAR , and those that selflessly support them an appology.

In an ideal world there would be no animal cruelty (or human come to that) but it is a sad fact of life that it exists all over the world not just the TRNC.

Bear baiting, ivory poaching, dolphin killing....the list goes on.

For all those who continually snipe at KAR....stop and think.....what if they did not exist?

For those of us that are animal lovers it is distressing to see the suffering of any animal but KAR do what they can under difficult circumstances.

Lack of funding and limited laws to prosecute those found guilty of such acts to name a few.

It does not help that certain people have to time to go on these forums and demoralise those that are doing their best in difficult circumstances.

Until the government act to stop such acts of cruelty such as deliberate poisoning, dumping of animals etc the kennels at KAR will always be full.

Is that KAR's fault....no!

Do people really think that they want to turn animals away...no!

There is only so much they can do.

you seem to be overlooking one thing, this is not the UK, here their is no RSPCA. Perhaps you should be moe vehemently expressing your views to the Government of thr TRNC and not having a go at an organisation that set itself up to try and help the animals of the TRNC, remember all their work is funded by the generosity of individuals, NO state help. They do not have the means to administer euthanasia, the local vets will not assist in this practice.Has the penny finally dropped with you?

Msg 65, I think you live in cloud cuckoo land and I am sorry to have to say that as I am sure you mean well...I am not knocking KAR indiscriminately, yes they do a good job but more could be done and please do not tell me euthanasia is out of the question, it happens...just not enough, I am a genuine animal lover and these sad souls have no future and nothing to look forward to..

No not at all, some of your facts are quite correct, others however are not. I have no reason to argue with you, AJ is the one that started this with his constant bleating about the brits not doing enough, just because he repairs their equipment not not make him or anyone else for that matter privvy to the real goings on at KAR.

I personally think KAR do a brilliant job under the very difficult circumstances they have to endure.

I have been up to the centre on a number of occassions and met them in the vets when took in a stray dog that had been badly attacked by other dogs. They do a great job and have only praise for them.

I would suggest those that do not speak so kindly of them, visit the centre and see just what they do. They work bloody hard and then to have save the lives of the poor dogs that are already in the centre from mindless, cruel individuals who choose to even put poison in the puppy pens and around the centre. This is totally beyond belief.

I recently have rehomed a dog from KAR. I have got to say this dog is a total dream, never known such a wonderful dog in every way. I am sad to say that in my mind he has been the only good thing to have come from North Cyprus.

Well done KAR!

'AJ is the one that started this with his constant bleating about the brits not doing enough,'

Constant bleating eh. Please just remind me of how many post's I have made complaining about 'the brits' not doing enough. Maybe you thought my statement was aimed at you? The word 'generalisation' should be applied to the one posting I made.

I do not wish to get into a slanging match with you as you obviously feel the need to break this boards rules with regards to replies you have made to other board members.

Maybe you need to look at taking an anger management course or at least take 3 deep breaths before posting.

Deecyprus4,

You have grossly insulted many board members, You have insulted people who have given their free time, in a country many thousands of miles away to selflessly collect money for this charity .You have questioned their integrity.

Worse, and wholly unforgiveable you have insulted the people who give their all to run, help with , collect for, this most worthwhile of charities. They do a most tremendous job in what are the most of horrendously difficult of situations.

You can post the most ridiculous offensive and of course untrue, slurrs on me personally,

(I thought that was the moderators province) ,it matters not!

MADAM YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO YOURSELF WITH YOUR FOUL LANGUAGE and you owe these decent self respecting people A PUBLIC APPOLOGY. YOU SHOULD HANG YOUR HEAD IN SHAME.

(Just my view, thats all)

Last Thursday morning my boyfriend and I took home (from a local rescue centre) a most wonderful Westie - we have named him Robbie. He has been quite sick but poor Robbie comes with no history - we think he is about a year old - he is the most wonderful dog ever!!. I don't post that often - so when I saw the heading I thought that I would make a donation to a good cause and what do I come across - the same old shit!!! Moans and groans - come on people get away from your computers you must spend hundreds and hundreds of hours just sitting and thinking 'I know who can I have a go at now' - well get your walking shoes on and get a life!!

Madam,

You are a dsigrace to your sex! There is help available if PMT is the problem. You had better hope that your postings don't end up in front of a judge. Slander is a serious offence.

Be nice guys.

It is difficult to be totaly constructive without facial expressions.

We all have our own opinions.

Constructive qualified critisism is good but dont shout for the sake of it.

C'mon. Lots of people read these posts.

It is good here. Difficult sometimes, great most times.

Take the good things out of everything.

The only attitude that can be given is a bad one. Good attitudes are derived from experience.

Sort your differences. We are not around for ever.

skogsy,

Mind your own! The woman is clearly loose of wit. The moderators should have deleted her posts well before now, and banned the woman from the site.

She is little more than a boil on the backside of common decency

She has criticised a wonderful charity.

She has criticised people who collect for that charity.

She has cast aspertions on the integrity of people that collect for that charity

She has personnally insulted people who give to that charity.

Read the posts!

There is no place on a public forum for such filth!.

If this is Cyprus44 Forum, its little wonder people are leaving in droves.

A NATIONAL DISGRACE.

Skogsy, well intentioned, but I think you're wasting your breath. I'm afraid the rabid dogs will keep barking at one another. They're a bit Mark Chapman to your John Lennon "Give Peace a Chance". Eins, Zwei, Drei, Vier.....................
