Just heard, allegedly confirmed by the Liaison Officer for the BRS that before you can re-new residency, you have to pay the taxes due on your home, despite not having your Kocan. This sounds absurd to me but I am sure someone out there can either confirm this or put it to bed as yet another "urban legend".

Which taxes are you referring to, is it council tax, property tax KDV etc. If it is then yes you have to pay before you get your Kocan. If it is transfer tax then I always thought this was paid when you received your Kocan.

Found out what it was.. its the stamp duty you pay when you get your contract of sale. This lady did not have the stamp on her contract. Her residency had expired and she had not started the renewal so she has been fined TL300. Be warned

All makes sense now, rules are quite specific on that one - stamped contract required. But surely if it was a renewal what happened last year because this rul is 2 years old??
