| Hi we have a skype user name and have been thinking about getting a skype number but not sure how it works..would the user need to use it through their computer or could the just use their landline phone to use to call us.using a local number as they use..Because it would be great if my daughter could just pick up her phone and call us because she never uses her computer as has a blackbury for when not at work..Thanks for all your help on this one.I know it will cost us but thats ok as we do not have a landline as yet and thought this may be a way round it... | when you buy a skype number you can choose the local area in the uk that's best for you then anyone just calls that number like any other, the call then goes down the internet to your pc/laptop as long as your online it just rings like a normal call |

I have a uk skype phone no. What is really good about it is this. You do not have to leave your pc on 24x7 to receive these calls. People ringing your skype no. from the uk will get charged uk local rates. You can use Skype forwarding to forward the calls to your TRNC mobile phone or landline. You will then pick up the charge from uk to your TRNC mobile phone. But as it is so cheap to use, not a problem and the quality of phone calls is really good.

Thanks Julia, I didn't know about that Skype forwarding thing. Theoretically then, I could set up a skype number in several countries for relatives to use as a local number and then forward them all to my TRNC number. Must give that a try. Thanks again, Paul

Thanks for all your help, all sorted..Yes proger you can buy a number in any country.that enables those living their to call you charged at their local rate calls..my guess is you can have few numbers just incase you have relatives all over the world..not bad. Spider,X

I use skype on my computer but a also got a skype phone. When we set it up it automatically transferred all our contacts from our computer to the phone. It has it's own transmitter/receiver (or whatever you call it) and I do not need to have the computer on. If I want to call my daughter in the UK, I just press the green telephone the same as on my mobile and scroll down and I can talk to her on the phone as I am busy around the house just the same as my mobile or landline phones. The costs are the same as my computer (coppers per minute) and the payments are made on my computer. I had to buy the phone in the UK, and arrange for it to be posted to the south and then picked it up. Not sure if you can get the same ones here.

Spider, When setting up a skype number, choose one that benefits whoever is going to ring you the most alternatively get the person who is going to ring you to set up skype on their computer then when they ring it is absolutely free. You will have to pay £10 per month plus vat for the number that you choose plus calls. I also buy calls up to £10 plus vat each time but have it set up so that it automatically recharges so that when you are ringing someone on a land line your call does not get cut off when you run out of credit. It generally recharges when you have about £2 left of credit. If you choose to buy a skype phone then check out which is suitable to your windows as our last one did not work on Vista or windows 7 and you can buy these in the local computer shops or (dare I say over the border in the occupied territories!).

We have Skype, pay 2.24 per month, this gives us a local London number. We can call any landline in UK for free, they can call us at local rates, we do have to pay to call mobiles, but even this is not pricey. I used to forward all my Skype calls to my Turkcell phone, don't anymore as people can leave voice message on Skype. This works fine for us on our dongle.
