The hatchlings are allowed to emerge naturally, which they tend to do in the evening. A couple of days after the last one has been seen, the volunteers excavate the nest and give the stragglers a hand. By that time it will be a bit before dusk.

Have a look here for a bit more info.

We fly out tomorrow too. I can't wait. I hope there will be some more hatchings over the next week, that is something I really would love to watch.

Am I out of sync here I though the hatching season extended to October or is it summer only?

Lisa/Mark - I think you will be able to see them hatching most days (apart from sunday) - if you go to Alagidi beach and stay the afternoon - then watch out for the students between 6 and 7pm..... Have fun !

Rock,

You are quite right, hatching does go into October, but the peak is August and September.

This hatching is only (I think) the second one so far this season.

Thank you boredhousewife, I am sure we will have a great time. We visited North Cyprus May 2007 and we fell in love with this part of the island, the people are so friendly as well. What a wonderful place.

There's another hatching tonight (Wednesday 23rd July). Be at the goat shed at 5pm.

This year has been a good year for nesting, so it's a pretty safe bet there will be an excavation most nights (except Sunday)

Just arrived home from North Cyprus late last night. What a fantastic holiday. We went to see the turtles hatching on the evening of Mon 28th July. We were told that the turtles are still laying eggs and there will be hatchings right up to the end of Sept. Would advise to go to the Goat House at Turtle Bay (really easy to find, just off main road to Tatlisu) and find out when the next hatchings will be and leave your mobile number so they can text you. Anyone going to North Cyprus soon and have not watched these hatchings its a must.
