its a sandwich, you put in 1 third of sand then theres special stones / crystals not sand and you put a third of that in then another third of sand. cyprus pools sell the sand and the crystals near the english cemertery b4 the new harbour road, thats where thier wharehouse is locvated.

Hi there,

if your pool filter is no bigger than 600mm then Astral recommend that you only put in the finest grade sand, and not to bother with coarser sand.

Beware the "Latterals" at the bottom of the filter!!!! Easy to break them off if you don't know they are there - go careful till you find them.

Excuse what might be a stupid question but how do you know when or if your sand needs changing? I've read about every five years but some can go on for 20+ so is there a visual sign?

Hi Pompeysmiths

the biggest tell tale sign is that when hoovering the pool ,the dirt comes back into the pool through the return jets even though you have backwashed thoroughly and the pressure guage is still in the green area.
