Friends staying at our house in Ozankoy had a break in 2 weeks ago. It happened between 3am and 6am so someone must have been watching the house. They took money from a wallet left on a worktop in the kitchen, but left the wallet behind. Our TC neighbours were also broken into in March/ April, one of them twice. Each time they took money only and once a mobile phone. Seems to me that this person/people may be local. Time, I think to up the security and close the downstair shutters at night if you have them. It is good that you friend had the camera security marked, something I do in the UK and will now do the same to all my things in Cyprus. It's so sad though, up until this year I never even bothered to lock the car and would have gone out leaving the windows open. Not any more. I think that it is even more frightening that these burglaries are happening when people are asleep, They must be very brave or very stupid to do that, burglars here mainly target empty houses. I always think what if they are cornered, that is when they could turn violent.

Hi Simbas, There was no sign of a break in, but the kitchen window was open when my friend got up at 6am. Their son had been watching DVD's until 3am, which is how they can pinpoint the time. They don't know if the window had been left open. Ours are PVC and the type that open inwardly, so it's possible that it hadn't been closed properly. When our neighbour was robbed they had got in the same way.

A lot of the tilt open windows, often used in bathrooms only need to support thr weight,, and you can lift out of a slot the bar that catches the windown when it lays open. It will then open fully. Check your windows. If you have these type, it's and easy fix, just screw in a self tapping screw with a round head to prevent the bar being lifted out.
