Hi my names H alot of you may know me if you are between the age of 20-40 and have ever been clubbing in the summer in North over the last 10 years or so.

I am an Events Organiser in north Cyprus, I do the club scene throughout August every summer and have been since 1999. I bring over artists and DJ's from the UK and Europe every year.

I invest a lot of my time and money into the country every and I am getting really worried now. As I have an aunt who is an owner of one of a travel agent and the news that I am getting is that a lot of people are asking for refunds or trying to get there money back or I am hearing that prices are as high as £500 this is crazy.

I normally book my tickets by now for my self and the DJ's I bring over and thank god I haven't done so as most of the DJ's we bring over run in a tight schedule and fly in only for 24hrs.

Basically I need to know a couple of things as I may have to CANCEL the whole summer.

1# By how much will the tourism be down

Thanks for that info but does anyone have any actual figures of the % of tourism down by last year???

I am probably one of the most patriotic Cypriots you will ever meet and as an events organiser in north Cyprus I want tourism up rather than down as I try my hardest to promote North Cyprus throughout the year over in the UK.

I think I need to speak to the TRNC minister of tourism. Does anyone have any contact details for him??

Many will still come - or try to - because they own villas (read 'concrete tents!) here, and these people can probably afford 'over the odds' priced tickets - but your 'Mr. Average Young Tourist' - the ones you'll be aiming for, won't want to know, as there are tons of alternative, club scene fun tourist destinations that are much cheaper and easier to get to - Turkey being best value. And now the £ is better value against the €, holiday destinations that were a 'No No' just a coupla months ago are now worth consideration again.

Tourists couldn't give a t*ss about the political infighting in Cyprus - most are totally ignorant of the situation - they just want two weeks of the cheapest possible 'bliss', and I'm sorry to have to predict (only guessing!) that TRNC's losses will, undoubtedly, be RoC's gains.

Then again... I prefer this place as the quiet and tranquil place that caught my attention years ago. I personally do not want 'clubbers' and all the drinking/noise/fighting/chavs that comes along with it. Leave them to Ayia Napa and Ibiza!! An influx of clubbers would stop the regular tourists that do come here for their quiet holiday year after year from coming and the economy would lose out even further. The long term view needs to be takan, not the short term, quick buck attitude.

Sorry H, but that is my opionon.....

Nice to see that your are back to your eloquent best.

You really need to take off your rose coloured spectacles. I appreciate your 'love and support' of the TRNC but please stop trying to defend the indefensible. The building trade is in meltdown because of unscrupulous developers/advocates coupled with the governments inability/unwillingness to do anything about it. Now the 'national' airline has collapsed potentially leaving thousands of customers high and dry. This is what brits are 'whingeing' about, hardly surprising really as they have been badly let down.

Despite your 'owning' a property here (I use the word 'owning' carefully as I understand that you have recently got your PTP but until you get your deeds you don't actually own anything) you are in effect a holidaymaker, visiting the island for a few weeks per year. Try living here permanently and see if your attitude changes. Continued...

The TRNC has some fantastic attributes but it also has significant shortfalls, making people aware of this is not 'whingeing', it is warning people of potential pitfalls and failures in the system.

If you cannot see and acknowledge this then I can only assume that your 'defence' is merely a way of protecting your 'investment' ??

Regards

Paul

The prices you have heard have been exagerated as l have family flying over on 29th July only booked their tickets yesterday £275 per person return.

Master H

We have a family member who has been a UK Showbiz agent for years and he specialises in comedians. He does not bother with the Cyprus market because it is not viable.

The "good acts" charge too much money for the event to make any money on at all and they expect decent hotel bills paid for and travel costs and of course because of the time it takes to get out from the UK do the show and return they want payment for at least three days. Just not viable.

He did send Frank Carson out to the South last year but Frank had to compromise loads on his normal prices and virtually did it as a favour.

Does it have to be between clubbers or repeat tourists who come for a tranquil holiday. Millions of tourists who leave the UK's shores are as tenakoutou says ' they just want two weeks of the cheapest possible 'bliss', and I'm sorry to have to predict (only guessing!) that TRNC's losses will, undoubtedly, be RoC's gains.'

We have had people on about not wanting Easyjet flights to destroy the exclusivity of NC(exclusive because tourists dont come ?). Portugal ,France, Spain, Turkey,UK, all seem to enjoy the tourism prosperity cheap flights bring.

The return tourists you mention who come for peace and quiet are mostly people who own property and do nothing to fill the empty hotels.

Cheapest flights ONLY, I can ever get ,about £300- £320

Turkey 3* BB Flight AND Hotel £294.

Easy choice.

Pity that the same amount of effort put into promoting the buying of cheap houses was not put into promoting cheap holidays.

As I understand it, politicians in the TRNC get a very decent wage. Does anyone know just what they are doing to earn it i.e.by saying or doing something about the collapse of CTA and the disastrous effects on the tourism industry and therefore the TRNC economy? Or did CTA carry so few holidaymakers anyway that it's demise wont make much difference?

Begonia,

He would laugh at that he is alive and well and lives in Blackpool and still working.

As he would say "It's the way I tell em and I may have died on stage a few times but not off the stage yet thank God" Lol

I certainly can't see the numbers of tourists been any less than five -ten years ago as more and more tourists are coming in via Larnaca, especially the younger ones. My son brought a group of friends over last summer and tried to attend a few clubs. Only one of the group was ever allowed entry, he was an asian friend who looked more turkish! I think this is more of an issue if you are targeting the tourist market. My son and his friends are respectable, and educated and do not fit into the lager lout catergory but they got the impression this was the brush they were tarred with. Maybe you need to discuss this with the club owners if you are looking to maximise attendees.

TO ALL

Thank you for all your comments and opinions

as regards to not letting in groups of people into my nights, I control who gets let in and who does'nt and its very rare that I turn away a group of holiday makers regardless of what nationalty unless we are full or have caused trouble which does'nt seem to be the case. I dont promote the whole of UK's larger louts to come to North Cyprus but Cater for the toursts that are there. without these nights the teenagers that go to Cyprus with there parents would proberbly have the worst holiday ever so I run a few night a week for there enjoyment and entertainment.

Just got News that Turkish Airlines have REDUCED all prices to ERCAN from Stansted.
