I'd suggest you make sure you get a seat regardless of what the law says in the TRNC. Injuries and fatalities on the roads are very high for such a small country.

Afraid I can't help you but with where you get them but maybe if you asked a hire car company where they get theirs?

The best method is to have one child on your lap in the front you won't hold onto them in a crash but no matter the passenger side air bag will take their head off

The second older child should stand between the front seats so that in the event of a front /rear collision they fly through the windscreen impacting on the other cars bonnet

Also make sure all adults in the back do not wear seatbelt so that when a collision occurs they are flung forward

gaining momentum that gives them the effective weight of an elephant until the soft objects in the front(passengers) absorb their momentum and are no more

Sorry for being so blunt but its the facts

BELT UP AT ALL TIMES CHILDREN IN PROPERLY SECURED SAFETY SEATS

You would never forgive yourself seats are hire-able from" wot not cots"

Please, on no account should any children be travelling in a car without being strapped into an age/size appropriate car seat....they, children are the most precious things in the world, why would anyone even contemplate travelling in a car, in any country with a child sitting on their lap? Sadly, many years ago, I witnessed the aftermath of a terrible accident where a little one was thrown through the window screen of a car, she had been sitting on her mothers lap. This was in the days when child car seats were just coming in and not everybody had them,(or seatbelts). Although this little one survived the accident God knows how, she was severely injured and lost both legs.

This must be a wind up, no sensible person would ask that question.

I'd be so, so embarassed if I was Garfield & had asked that question.

Do people really only, not do things, because they are against the law & they don't want to be prosecuted?

Woodspeckie - I thought so too, but looking at Garfield's previous posts, seems like a 'normal' person????

However, I do agree with you; surely no-one in their right mind would ask that question?

Garfield would you travel in the car with your best china loose on the back seat? No I guess!! AND children are the most precious gift in the world and infinitely more precious than china.

I cannot believe you even asked that question.

Make sure that your child is sitting, or preferably standing, on the driver's lap while the driver is smoking and also permanently on his mobile phone.

After all, you want to become 'Cypriotised' - don't you?

I have an old banger of a car with no seat belts in the back. My daughter in law is visiting in September with the children aged 4 & 6. I have spent the last couple of weeks going from garage to garage asking if they can put seat belts in the back - mostly the reaction has been utter amusement! why would I need seatbelts in the back? Having had no success I have now decided to hire a car for the 2 weeks - complete with two child seats in the back. Expensive but my precious granddaughters are priceless!

Don't know about the law for cars but it appears that it is ok to carry them in your lap when you are riding a scooter! That may only be true if the passenger on the scooter is sitting side saddle by the way.

WHY would you want to have a child on your lap on these roads with these drivers?

I thank you all for you!!!! (but a few )for your sarcastic comments,of course I would not put the children on the back seat,or front for that matter....I am normal (as far as I know) thank you Jeannie, I just wanted to know if you can get car seats here to hire, hence the reason I asked about the law..not everyone worries about it. and I have seen kids standing on the front seat, and on the back of motorbikes, with no helmet, also hanging out windows, and sitting on the drivers lap,saw one the other day at the supermarket with a baby not more than 10mths!!! if that, he was driving with the baby on his lap no one else in the car,so is it any wonder I asked about the law.......Thank you to those who gave me the name of a place to hire. Have a good day all

Garfield if you look what you posted in your 1st message

"HI my daughter is coming to visit with twins of 28mths, she will be flying into Larnaca,we are not sure of the law re: children on laps..do we need car seats,or is it ok if there is a child on adult lap (Two) in the back of the car.If we need seats is there anywhere we can hire car seats? You were asking if you NEEDED car seats or 'is it ok' to have children on an adults lap. To anyone reading your post it looks like you would only bother with car seats IF the law says you have to have them!

Don't then blame people for being outraged and telling you that, regardless of what the law says, it's unthinkable to risk the twins lives by not having them strapped into car seats.

Hope you get fixed up with child seats & have a lovely time with your grandchildren!

Garfield

Transfer cars LCA to North Cyprus provide car seats and can also provide for the period of hire if you book with a good co.

there has been car seats and booster seats in the Chateau Lambousa markets on numerous occasions - there is a market on this weekend, why not look there and see what is available.

Maggie

Sorry to hear you couldn't get fixed up with seat belts but the offer of the booster seats is still there should you need them at any time.

Thanks Hattikins - I meant to ring you but my brain has been completely addled between the heat & the most lazy aggravating kitchen fitter in the world!

Many thanks for your kind offer - if we ever get together enough dosh to buy a more up to date car I may ask a loan of the seats!
