| If you have twenty pound notes with Adam Smith on them that's fine, but if they show Elgar, that could be bad. The Bank of England has withdrawn £20 Elgar notes effective 30th June, and they will no longer be accepted in shops - UK building societies and banks will probably take them for a few more months. From July 1 only notes with the image of Adam Smith will be legal tender. Regardless of your opinions about Scottish economists, should you have sterling lurking in a tin at the back of the wardrobe, or perhaps take it as payment here in the TRNC, check and send any older notes (featuring the composer of Land of Hope & Glory) back to Blighty asap, before it gets really hard to spend them. |

| The man in the exchange place in Alsancak told us that he'd been passed quite a few dodgy £20 notes recently. |
