Watched the programme last night re Dubai and its builders and developers doing exact same as the NC lot.

The same has happened to hundreds of Brits over there, paid for 'off plan' and then off they went!

The gov are no help over there either, some of the buyers who have lost all their money have got Interpol involved but this seems to have fallen on stoney ground too.

What a horrible world we live in, all these brits have is glossy brochures and heaps of sand to dig sand castles in....

They probably say' legal system is same as UK' as well. Suppose there will be some smug git called Abdul Bin Rowlo telling them they should have done research 'like wot I dun'.

Re : Msg 1,

Was interesting to see in that programme that the developer who fleeced people in Cyprus is fit and well and continues his "good work" in Dubai. Does anybody know the location of the development he had fled, taking all his clients' money with him?

There will always be poeple getting ripped off if you by off plan even in the UK

My motto is always piurchase what you can see and feel, not the idea givn to you in a glossy brochure or costly mini layout

IN a lot of the cases what you see is all your gonna get

So it just goes to show that we should all keep that "No Deeds, No Money" statement uppermost in our minds!

Whilst visiting many estate agents recently I used the statement quite often and I noticed some reactions as many knew instantly that this stance would indeed affect their business!

No off-plan, no upfront money ...

That Ian Beaumont left a load of people in Paphos in the South with just a spare plot of land for their money.

Now he claims that he is broke and so they will never get the properties that they have paid for. Poor people who put their trust in yet another scammer.

Well lets hope all these issues brought up on the forums that people will now think twice before they but off plan.

Dont think any will get much help from the gov as it looks a common practice in the middle east....

Hilda

I wish I could agree with you but we have had a nightmare just trying to purchase a bungalow in the UK due to our solicitor making an error in what should have been a quick turnover. She then handed the case to a specialist lawyer who in turn handed it to the Financial Ombudsman. He then brought in the Legal Ombudsman and at almost conclusion after almost 18 months the Attorney General was brought into the scene.

The handover should have been this last Tuesday and then the Ombudsman realised that he had sent the keys back to the Vendor's solicitor in ERROR. God help us these are the top people in the legal field and cannnot run a Christmas club. I am disgusted. British legal system. Bunch of noggins. We continue to await conclusion.

As you say, your solicitor made an error, and at the end of the day you had an ombudsman and the attorney general to sort things out.

A far cry from being defrauded of your life savings and then being told that such things are not illegal and you have no protection under the law,or that a contract has no legal standing.
