I have foolishly tried to upgrade the software on my iphone to new versionn 4 which is supposed to have all sorts of wonderful things on it.!!

unfortunately during the installation something has gone wrong and I lost all facilities. In short My phone is useless unless I can restore it.Normally this is easy but for some reason i am having trouble doing it on both my computers.

What I need is somebody with a pc who has done a restore and knows that its working. I would be grateful if somebody could help.

Or if anybody knows a place in kyrenia that does iphone restoration.

Please call me on 0542 853 5293.

Many thanks

I take it you've plugged the phone into your computer, gone on to iTunes and clicked restore settings!

The iphone is normally pretty bullet proof when it comes to these issues.

My suggestions might sound like sucking eggs to you but I have no idea how much experience you have with an iphone so my apologies if you allready know this.

Try the full reset. Push down both the on/off button on the top of the phone at the same time as the select biutton on the front face. After about 3 seconds you will see the slide to switch off screen, don't let go off the buttons, hold them for a further 5 seconds and the phone will switch off and you can restart it after the screen goes completely black and off. It might take up to 10 minutes to start again because it is doing a fullsystem check. It's a bit like CTRL+ALT+DEL on windows.

This may reset everything for you or it might show a screen with a USB cable. If you get the USB cable it means you will need to plug in and then restore via iTunes. My concern is that now you have gone to 4.0 you might not be able to revert to 3.X, I'll google it.

mess 5 it really depends if his phone is factory unlocked which means its ok , however if the phone is not factory unlocked than he will will have to wait for the jailbreak and subsequent carrier unlock which is imminent

I did realise this ataturk but ran out of letters in the post. I figured that if the phone is an unlock they would write that and then I could break the bad news to them. My daughter did an upgrade to 3.1 when she had an unlocked phone and basically turned it into an itouch for about a month until someone released a crack for it. She now has a real factory unlocked phone but I still don't think I will upgrade to 4.0 for a while.

Google is the best tool I know for checking before doing when it comes to iphones.

proger the best tool is the dev team website and geohots website. There is no problem with updating to os4 if you have a factory unlocked iphone but if you have a 3gs currently you cannot jailbreak it. Always remember to restore rather than updating as it gives you all your disk space. Updating loses some of the memory each time.

Thanks for the info ataturk, didn't realise about the memory loss with update, good to know.

When I got my daughters old phone up and running again I used blackra1n but I am running a MAC so it was easy, I think there is a windows version now but not for 3Gs or the 4 as far as I know

I am not sure how this worked out but I am the only person with a jailbroken iphone in the house. The rest are all factory unlocks so they have no problems.

I think I might hold out till the iphone 4 but I don't know if turkcell will be doing the mini-sim card. Do you have any info on this?

Progers Jailbroken and carrier unlock are two different things. Carrier unlock is so the phone can be used on any network. Jailbroken is installing a software on the iphone which allows you to use third party apps mainly installous which has all the apps from the apple store but for free.

Blackrain is available on both mac and pc, but not expecting an jailbreak just yet for ios4.

If you have an old iphone and you know which phone company its from ie.orange o2 vodafone ypu can call them up and they should unlock it for a small fee. Just done mine on Orange, this is a factory unlock and will never need to be unlocked again hence you can update at anytime.

mess 12 you cannnot downgrade if you have updated to ios4 that easily it depends if you has saved certain data about your iphone before you have updated.

The rebel simcards are not always the best option as sometimes the 3g part of the phone doesnt always work.

Basheer ios4 is available for every iphone old or new.

Sorry raider every single iphone does not have a separate program the update is the same for all of them. Jailbreaking and unlocking them is also the same. The only difference is the IPSW used when jailbreaking them.
