Yesterday I watched a PWC, a jet ski or wetbike to those who aren't aufait with the terminology, leave the new harbour and head in an easterly direction. There were three people on board, a male, female, and a small child. The child was in front of the mother, and the male at the back. The small child appeared to be driving. None of them were wearing personal buoyancy!!!!!

It's not so many years ago that I gave the harbour master all the RYA books relating to personal water craft. When are they going to make some hard and fast rules about safety?? Before anyone makes any remarks about getting used to it, I have lived on the island now for over 34 years, and 27 in the TRNC. I cannot get used to the lack of safety, especially where children are concerned.

bridie - it's like a lot of things in TRNC. You have to say "oh well, it's Cyprus" and then chuckle.

This applies to many things in Cyprus - animal cruelty, lack of law enforcement to certain parts of the population, road safety, building regs. etc. etc.

That, apparently, makes everything OK

And, no, I doubt you'll ever get used to it - neither will I.

Terry,

If they hit a turtle, (the water is full of them just now) they will sure know about it. Weighing many kilos and difficult to spot at speed, it would be like hitting a submerged rock at 40 MPH... no joking
