I think it's a standing joke with Brits. this name. Having learned a little Turkish & heard it pronounced properly (as Erkan said) I don't really think it that funny! My local friend also told me how to pronounce Girne (which we usually pronounce as it looks in English) & I use the proper way when speaking to locals. I think Kyrenia sounds prettier though, but that's just my opinion. Arcelik are a very large, well-known firm in Turkey & have found them to be very reliable & their deliveries prompt.

Ilmdogs You could try Tektan in Kyrenia - saw microwaves there from 140ytl as friend of mine was looking for one & couldn't get down to Ikea this time. They are left along a street just before Socrates.

100 lines jock plus detention Phylray, totally agree with you about Kyrenia. It has a real ring to it. Probably why Girne hasn't really caught on.

There is a blonde, she wants to buy a microwave. So she goes in and asks the sales clerk, "How much for that microwave?" The sales clerk replies, "We don't sell Microwaves to blondes." So the next day she dyes her hair red, and goes in and asks the same question. The sales clerk answers, "we don't sell microwaves to blondes." So the next day she dyes her hair brunette and goes and asks the same question. The salesclerk replies the same way. The blonde asks how he knows she is a blonde. The clerk says, "That isn't a microwave it's a TV."

I bought one from Tesco's for about £35, took it out of its box, filled it with other goodies, wrapped it in bubble wrap, shoved it big wheelie bag from Argos that cost £10, with loads of other stuff, kettle, toaster, juicer etc and flew to Larnaca. Straight in a taxi to Alsancak and Bobs your Aunty, no probs at border, never have had. Just on my hols mate!!! Lem

Nice one Lemtich! Gonna tell ma friend to do that! I got one delivered from a furniture store in Girne that I didn't order, so I thought maybe it was a freeby for being such a good customer. No?

We bought all our electrical items over with us - microwave from Tescos (very cheap), iron, kettle, toaster, hoover (cant be doing with sweeping and the dust and fluff going everywhere else apart from the pan!!!). We wrapped it up in gift wrap and then bubblewrapped it. Kept it in its original box too. Came via Larnaca.
