Strange!!!!

Have you seen new Fish & Chip shop opening in Alsancak. Used to be the Pe-To car hire, which is moving across road to outside Green Holiday Village..

Just along from Chapter one which is for sale and probably closing end of month!!

cyprusishome : (...) Cod Baba - been past 3 times this week and no sign of life. (...)

They are all out to hunt for the one million tourists the minister promised (quote from Cyprus Today, some time ago) (...)

Every m/f tourist arriving at Ercan International Airport now gets a free red hat, so it's easy for the "Ministry of Tourism" to spot him/her in the crowd.

What a bunch of clowns, these "civil servants" of the "Ministry of Tourism". Traveling all over the world to worthless fairs (including South Korea!), coming back in TRNC and making the same statement every time: "We had very useful talks...".

Result for years now: none.

Big talk by ridiculous, little men.

Bit harsh DC but so right.

Isn't it like non entity politicians world wide to jet off on these freebie holidays that offer nothing productive.

If these TRNC politicians flew to New York to UN or Strasbourg and camped outside arguing the case for flights etc then they may get more respect.

Dined at Cod Baba yesterday (Weds) - 'large cod' was small and wasn't cod! Wife's steak and kidney pie was OK, chips on both plates were awful, cooked in old oil we suspect.

Times are hard for restrauteurs at the moment, but surely this is not the time to cut corners and put off those few customers they do have.

In future, we will stick to The Old Grapevine for brilliant cod 'n chips.

Hi Cyprusishome, really sorry to hear that Chapter One is to close. Met John (owner) on a plane and have visited whenever in NC. Really nice guy. When we were out in May he said he was looking to buy another place further along the road towards Lapta - do you know if he did?

Freinds of mine went the first week it opened and were not too impressed at all. Maybe just teething trouble so perhaps it's better now a few weeks in.

Had a takeaway from Flippers last week. It was awful. But it is new and hopefully they are just finding their feet. I will try again in a few weeks time.

went ot cod baba fro lunch today - closed!!!!

They have changed there opening hours. Do not open until 1400 now.

As for Chapter One - you are one of the few that actually say they enjoyed food there. Personal view not printable.

As far as we know he is closing all his outlets and only keeping open his initial project The Bike Shop in Girne.

So Cod Baba opens when most people have had their lunch hour? Marketing Genius! I hope you managed to eat CIH.

Has anyone been to the Ravine recently, we went about 12 months ago for Fish and Chips, food was okay but tables etc were filthy - it put me off going again.

Stop the press! Have you heard The News? "Tourism: next year will be better!" (Like they said in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and in...). :-(

Dear Bilko, I do not understand why a customer and his wife should make such untrue and hurtful comments. You ate both meals without comment or complaint, even leaving a tip. Why not speak up at the time if there were any genuine doubts or concerns? If your fish was not cod as you state, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me what fish you think it was. Perhaps you find it easier to hide behind a pseudonym on this website rather than voice your queries at the time?

Well said.

It is so easy to go away and complain on these boards when you have said nothing at the time. OK if you make a general critisism but this was quite specific about size and quality and if not as advertised on the menu should have been pointed out.

We do not eat often with you but have no complaint other then the name of restaurant which we detested the day it first opened by the original owners.

Exactly. I've been around a bit, but I never saw a country with so many ridiculous names (and often wrongly spelled!) for restaurants as in TRNC. "Cod Baba", "Lunch box", "The Ravine" etc. - hardly inviting names, I'd say.

Had a pie from Codbaba a couple of days ago. Made a nice change from the usual kebab, kebab or kebab.

Also Sabor now have a restaurant in Kyrenia. Absolutely fab Spanish and Italian dishes.

Some great new eateries this year including Mani Peni and Mugz Coffee shop, top notch in my books.

Yeah it's going to be interesting seeing which ones survive give the low numbers of tourists! El Sabor have a good reputation..

I see Titiz has gone.... Don't think the name helped - no topless waitresses either!

What sort of pie was it and how much did it cost?

Were the chips any good as this seems to be a major beef with Codbaba?

Fatosh

Recently six of us dined at Cod Baba. The place was immaculate and the service and food superb. No complaints from my family! Thanks for the meal.

The Old Grapevine - On the main road between the Lefkosa roundabout and the Colony Hotel, on the right travelling towards the Colony, behind the Pacific filling station, opposite Atanco furniture store. Head waiter is Enver.

Hi Cyprusishome, thanks for the reply and the info. Didn't say that we enjoyed the food but that the guy who owned Chapterone was a nice guy.

If you fancy fish and chips, the old mill in ozankoy is the place to go. They have a special night for a 2 course for 20ytl, not sure which. Comes with mushy peas, well worth a visit

Have eaten there several times (including today), I have never been disappointed with there fish and chips, my grandson regards them as the best in the north, when my son was over he said they were far better than anything he'd had around Maidstone, the service is excellent as well.

Flippers is quite the opposite poor service, 4YTL charge to sit in the carpark, poor chips and all very greasy.

Ravine is good as is Stroll Inn but my vote still goes to Cod Baba.
