Looked like a good game - what I saw of it. Well done, Holland.

Hope you beat Germany but it won't be easy!

My pharmacist gave me a lollipop for "being brave enough to still have the England flags on the car" Flags will not be removed, loud and proud.

RE msg 8, Groucho: (...) Hans, why would you hope it's Germany? (...)

=> A football match between Holland and Spain has no football history. Football matches between the football teams of Holland and Germany do have an interesting football history. Unfortunately Holland has not always been very lucky in their football meetings. The worst event of course was 1974 when "we" lost from Germany ("Weltmeister" in 1954 also) in the WC final, 2-1. I trust this will answer your question, Groucho?

P.S. I think Spain has the best team, but Germany plays the best football. So it'll be an interesting final anyway.

Why is a game between the Dutchies and Spain deemed to have no history?

It's not that long ago that the Netherlands were under the thumb of the Spanish this alone would normally guarantee an edge to the fixture. (think England Scotland)

DC is of course right when he says there is no football history but why not start one?

By the way I would say the worst event was when Rudi Voeller put his head in the way of some sticky stuff projected from Frank Rijkards mouth.

=> Hmmm. I wouldn't call "The 80 years War, 1568-1648" 'not that long ago'.

(...) DC is of course right when he says there is no football history but why not start one? (...)

=> OK, it'll be Holland Spain in 2014. OK?

(...) By the way I would say the worst event was when Rudi Voeller put his head in the way of some sticky stuff projected from Frank Rijkards mouth. (...)

=> He is called Frank Rijkaard. And yes, he was a great football player but a disgrace to the reputation of the Dutch football team. I'm glad his generation of always troublemaking internationals (all from once Dutch Surinam) is gone. They formed a club in the team ("The black axis") and did the team no good. Racist? Not at all. Just facts.

Why is it that when England play in the big events, they always seem to underperform but when Germany and Holland play they always seem to play to their potential and beyond. It will be a cracking Holland V Germany final.

By the way: tiny country The Netherlands (Holland) reached the final of a WC football for the third time during the last 10 events - as many times as giant Brazil! If coach Bert van Marwijk has his strongest team in the field on Sunday only three players play in the Dutch Eredivisie (Premier League). The other players can be traced all over Europe. It's sad that Dutch clubs don't have the money to keep them playing within the country. Dutch club football might rule in Europe... Dream on, DC...

Obviously the treaty of Utrecht didn't happen in 1713, but what do I know.

Germany against their kin would be a cracker but Spain can't be discounted.

=> Holland (although differently shaped than the current country of the same name) became de facto independent from Spain in 1648. Back to football, OK?

hans i see you did not mentioned hollands second goal another officials mistake should not have been allowed and it knocked the stuffing out of uru!

how the big gimp at center half stayed on the pitch i have no idea he should have been off in the first half for 3 up stud fouls and didnt get a yellow until it was 2 late.

if you play like that against g or s you will get stuffed.

robbin was crap apart from the headed goal which was excellent. van persie was crap

goalie for holland looks suspect mind you the uru goalie wasnt much better.

but have to say the first goal was a belter it was inch perfect and the uru goalie did get a touch on it full credit for the effort

First goal should have been disallowed when Van Bommel almost took care of the Uruguayans manhood.

Terrific strike though.

Third was a great header.

My TV must have phased some of these nasty bits out. All Hollands goals looked good, I thought it was a smashing match. Have to say though, that if Holland had spent as much time trying to win the match as they did trying to win free kicks, it would have been over by half time. Van Bombell must have an angel on his shoulder, good looking hunk though.
