how often do you need an emission test???

when I taxed my car in jan this year was told every 3 years but think depends who you speak to but its not much anyway

I had my car emission tested in Jan 2009 .. The MOT was due August 2009 .. Asked when emission test was to be done & was told before next MOT August 2012 ..

Firstly we had ours done the first year as required then the second year as Erdeners Garage told us that was what was required to keep legal however ..... other garages we have since checked with PLUS the Girne police station say NO.



The tax office and the Girne police statione now tell me (one month ago) that it is now required that you have a new test at the time of your MOT and this will then last until your next MOT 3 years later. We are using a private car so whether the rules are different for vans etc, I am not sure.



So, who really knows what the rules are???? Guess work, I think!!

though I had 3 yrs before the mot was required which is next yr I have for the last two yrs done the emmision test regardless the rule of no requirement for 3 yrs or when the mot is required,maybe i thought it was a requirement regardless of just being told by the garage that it is not required yet,I assume that since the law changes often, and in the event of a need to produce in the event of a insurance need,or stopped on the road for document check, I thought its safer for the price of £10 for no hassle maybe someone will say waste of money but thats what I did
