My husband takes early retirement next summer and we are interested in leaving the UK and moving to TRNC.

We've visited the south, not the North so are coming for a visit in September to look at houses around the Kyrennia area.

Can you give advice on the following:

* Good estate agent -offering Turkish owned (pre 1974). Does this mean looking at re-sales?

* Are developments a safe bet - quite like the look of the Sevilla construction houses near the new Korineum golf course especially as hubby loves golf.

* Good hotel, centralised so we can house hunt.

N.Cyprus sounds perfect, apart from the land ownership problems which we'd like to learn more about when we come over.

Thanking you in advance - great website - very informative and you all sound like you're 'living the dream'.

We lived in Germany for 3 years ago when we were in the forces but having

September is a lovely time here - a good time to come and house-hunt too as the weather is not too hot and the bucket and spade brigade have gone home! Good hotel - think you'll like The Dome in Kyrenia; great position in town with easy access to all the restaurants around the harbour. It also has parking - a real bonus! http://www.dome-cyprus.com

I'm sure Izzet will tell you of a good estate agent and give his views on new developments. NCP Properties ( http://www.north-cyprus-properties.com ) offer a free dvd on North Cyprus which also (naturally) includes footage of their developments here, and it's a nice introduction to TRNC before you come. They'll post it to the UK no problem. Like most property developers, they offer an inspection visit at very good rates, which you might like to take advantage of...

Thank you kyreniachap for your prompt reply.

Will look at the websites you've recommended.

Hope you're having nice weather over there - we're battening down the hatches as it's been forecast snow here in the UK !

Yup, the snow has arrived and needless to say the whole of the UK has ground to a halt! I've written a blog on this, if anyone's interested - should be up on the site within a few hours. If you too want to feel smug, have a look at the BBC web site pics ( http://www.bbc.co.uk , as if you didn't know already!)

Where are you Izzet?

Thought you'd be giving me all the info on estate agents?

Hello Kathy,

Why is it that Northern England, Scotland, parts of Europe, Canada etc etc can all cope with the snow and we can't?

I work for a local hospital and all the staff managed to get in fine but somehow the teachers couldn't do the same so the schools got closed. Really pathetic as we only got about an inch of snow and by the afternoon it had all melted.

I'm in the wrong career -

sorry if you're a teacher by the way!

Apologies as this has nothing to do with N.Cyprus - just another reason to leave for a better climate.

No, I'm not a teacher, never fear! Sister has just emailed from London and says snow is gently dripping away, but she has to go and fetch husband from the station because the Tube is still disrupted - typical London! And yes, that kind of hassle with any change in the weather was one reason I decided to ditch the UK in favour of the warmer climate in North Cyprus! Do I miss snow, sleet and hail? Do I heck...

Hello Boofey. We have visited South Cyprus many times and went to TRNC for the first time last year.

We where bowled over by the place - so much so we are currently buying a fantastic villa in Bellapais - which is a beautiful village behind Kyrenia. We have had it all checked out and the land is pre 74 Turkish so no problems. Good luck to you

Hello Perry,

We are booking a fortnights holiday in September which gives us plenty of time to look at houses. Are you buying to re-locate or as a second home?

I have been looking at various websites for quite a while now and have been amazed at the many reasonably priced, fantastic looking houses - I may have to stay longer!

Good luck with your house purchase in Bellapais - might have to have a sneeky look there myself.

Hello Kathy,

So you took the plunge - how long have you lived in TRNC?

How was the move/finding a house/settling in etc etc?

Apart from the weather (which is drizzly grey at present- the snow has gone), we're trying to get away from high cost of living, house prices, finding an NHS dentist, neighbours that don't speak to you, terrible news stories -

I live in Suffolk which is still recovering from the prostitute murders you may have heard of and to cap it all we've now been hit with an outbreak of bird flu. I'm not a celebrity but get me outta here!

Hello boofey,

We have bought a place in Esentepe just by the golf course. It is truly beautiful out there, only wish we could up and move there full time. My problem is as we live in the UK up north(Liverpool) finding flights is a nightmare. All good priced flights seem to be down South with new carriers opening up by the month. Just wish they would share it around by flying into Manchester or Liverpool occasionally! Rant over!! Good Luck with your home hunting, you will be spoilt for choice.

Hello Herindoors,

Thanks for your reply.

My hubby is sure to make the most of the new golf course in Ensentepe so maybe see you in the Club house or Spa sometime cause I don't play !

Hope the flights improve for you over time.

Best wishes

Since I work for NCP (at least I m being honest), I can definitely recommend our projects in Esentepe.

We only build in Esentepe region and all our projects are within a few minutes driving distance to the golf course.

I personally love our Pine Village project.

Boofey, I guess my move here three years ago was like every relocation to a foreign country - organised hassle! I left much of the furniture and stuff in our old house in the UK (we rent it out) so bought much of the items we needed out here, which did save on moving costs. I think I did the right thing leaving familiar furniture etc behind; life here is not just our former life in the UK plonked into a sunny location!

We've tried hard to make local friends, beyond the ex-pat community. We enjoy the fresh food and veg that TRNC offers, and love the warm climate, rather than compare it to the UK equivalent. It's not always easy, but we came here for a complete change of pace, and that's what we love the most.

OK, I admit it, I do miss two things; Tunnocks chocolate wafers and decent cider on tap!

Gary, what a lovely offer - thank you! My cousin is coming over for Easter and has promised to bring plenty with her (she knows she won' get a bed otherwise!) For the sake of my waistline I'd better hang out until then (if you pardon the pun!).

Well you wouldnt not reccomend them would you Izzet.

But you have to admit there is little infrastructure there yet no restaurants,no supermarkets,no bars it will be a long while before the East offers as much as Girne area or to the West.

Most of the homes there seem to be holiday ones it would be a long lonley winter up there with so many empty houses.

Hello Hippo,

Thanks for your comments - like Izzet said he was 'being honest' suggesting Esentepe and he has to earn a crust like everyone else afterall.

Will certainly take on board people's comments but I think it best to visit several times to get a feel of the areas before plunging in next September. We're thinking of renting for a few months and taking our time. We also want to be clear about the land our future villa will be built on.

I think North Cyprus is a really beautiful place and the people are incredibly friendly. We took the plunge and bought pre-74 Title deeds apartment last November. Excited about our new holiday home and the prospect of living over there when we retire however I have recently heard that non Turkish Cypriots are not being granted permission to purchase on pre 74 title deeds. Anyone heard if this is true or experienced this?

hi,

About Your question "non turkish Cypriots are not being granted permission to purchase on pre74 title deeds"

Thats not true ! In North Cyprus it is only one deed which is TRNC deed. Only the way you can findout if its pre74 or other deeds by having someone at the deeds office or checking the full history of the deeds. If you go and ask deeds office they will not tell you. You have to becarefull that they will not sell you exchange or other deeds as Pre74 because They are cheaper then the pre74.And some areas are known as a exchange or other deeds because of the past history. Say Esentepe 90% of the villas are not pre74. I sell exchange deeds villas from 60-100 and pre74 deeds from 100-200. Hope this helps. After you find your villa you can contact me and i will check for you everything free of charge. THANKS
