The majority of mezes and stuffed (dolma) vegetables are vegetarian or have vegetarian options, salad is also a good option and grilled courgettes, red/green peppers, onions, carrots, garlic, mushrooms and then tossed in al ittle soy sauce is fantastic dish.

Haci Ali hotel, Lapta - the restaurant offers a few good veggie dishes, my best friend and sister are both veggies and enjoy eating here. Good food, great service, beautiful location, good prices too - what more could you want.

I have 3 vegetarian friends and I eat almost no meat, and no fish at all - and we all have no problem in the vast majority of restaurants here. Your other half should be just fine.

If push comes to shove, the Iceland store sells quorn, I did a recce for veggie stuff last time I was over as both me and my son are vegetarian.

I have not really had a problem finding something to eat, its finding different sources of protein thats the hard part!

Hi Wayne

Not that you will need these translations, as most commercial restaurants speak English, perhaps less so if you are eating away from the main drag.

Etsiz yemek ne var? - What vegetarian dishes do you have?

Zeytinyagli - cooked with olive oil rather than meat stock

Tracey shouldn't have too many problems with vegetarian food, apart from as Chris says protein. Mind you living in England she should be used to that. Often when you ask for a vegetarian main course in England you get a dolled up mushroom, aubergine or some weird unsubstantial pastry looking thing.

Ahh, you can't beat an ice cold cobra Wayne.

Plenty of ruby murrys in NC. I can recommend Al Shaheens (never totally sure of the names of restaurants) just outside Kyrenia on the main road towards Catalkoy. The owner there emtiaz and his crew are nice guys. She will easily get a vegetable curry there, probably even a decent chick pea curry for the protein.

Jasheens do an awesome amount of veggie side dishes that they will make into a main course for you, I had a lovely mushroom masala last time I was there

You can get excellent vegetarian dishes at Vini Vici, the Italian on the Lapta road opposite the Haci Ali hotel.

Hi, I tried the veggie burger in one of the beach bars past Lapta. It turned out to be an odinary burger with bits of carrot and onion in it When I complained the waiter explained that it was a burger "with vegitarians". I tried to tell him that it should not contain meat at all or couldn't be called a veggie burger but he he found the whole idea of a burger without meat extraordinary.!!!

Hi,

Anyone recommend decent veggie options in Girne, Alagaddi please? I tried meze for the first time today (and enjoyed most of them), as a starter at 'Valley View', but thought the only veggie main dish of stuffed artichokes was bland. Preferably, I'd like to try the native options (e.g. veg mousakka etc), but would appreciate any general suggestion. On those lines, me Dad reckons 'Happy Valley' is the best local Indian, can anyone suggest any other? Their Sag Panner was tasty (though not authentic), but there aren't many veggie options on the menu.

Cheers,

Graeme

I was in Lacem's Alsancak last night and it had 5 veggie selections- you mainly have to eat Chinese or Indian to get something away from pizza and lasagna!

A veggie post and you ask for a prawn dish? When were prawns considered a vegetarian dish?

Happy feet that would make her a 'pescetarian' a term used frequently now...in London at least! Where you eat fish but no meat!

5 fingers ozanköy - lovely swooning inams - aubergine dish...freshly made pizza....extra garlic and basil...wonderful....vege chilli...baked fish turkish style....salads....meze...wonderful views..great prices..car park at rear...

on a funnier note - someone told me they went to one of the indian restaurants over here - ordered a ham burger..and got a frozen burger (cooked obviously) with ham on top! now there is a literal transalation!
