Hi Miss Ruby, You could try Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus or citronella candles. They are not as effective as plug-ins and sprays but they do help!

What is more natural about candles as opposed to plug-ins? Nothing.... The plug-ins work really well and are recommended for babies so they must be very safe (i.e. safer than letting the baby get bitten)... OK the smell is not the best but there are a variety of different perfumes.... I use a Coconut oil shampoo as a shampoo and body wash and this keeps them at bay... again it's not really "natural"... as in nature I'd just smell of sweat (not good) but it is about as good as it gets....

Listerine is supposed to be good! Mop it around the door and window frames. Lem

Yeast tablets...same sort of idea as the Marmite but taste a lot better. Mossies apparently hate yeast. They also allegedly dislike quinine, the stuff in tonic water, so drinking that or even keeping a saucer of it on a table might help. There are so very many ideas on keeping them away, but the citronella candles work pretty well.

The idea of quinine in tonic water was to kill off any bacteria and to help ward off the symptoms of malaria, I don't think it does repel mozzies

If you put some Gin with your quinine, you wont worry about the mozzies after a while............... Chris

Thank you all so much! Will have a citronella candle-lite bath full of marmite, scrubbing away with coconut oil, whilst downing some yeast pills with a Gin and tonic!!

On holiday in Namibia and our driver/guide asked how many of us had the proprietry anti malaria gubbins. Answer 11 out of 11. He actually laughed saying we were there out of season and the pharmacies in UK obviously over compensated in case they got sued!!!!!!!!! This was a man from Namibia who had served with South African Forces and been a bush ranger. His answer as some have already stated, a couple of large G&T every day keeps the mossies away. That is proper tonic of course and not Frucko!!!!!
