5.11 dollar per CC on a car above 2500cc + 40%.. ouchh!

I honestly think they do it just so the "elite" can only afford to drive round in a decent smoker?

Do you have the breakdown of the $ per cc for all the bands I presume the 40% is the increase from 28% of the glasses guide

It will have the effect of increasing the value of cars because the next ones will be so much dearer with the tax increase because cars are so cheap over here compared with the rest of the world )

Dave, I must be missing some information, I make that import cost to be a little over 8,600 GBP if the bookprice is 19,000 and he pays for the 200cc over at 5.11 + 40% of book value. What I missing if they came out with a 20,000 GBP duty?

Paul.

2.7cc x 5.11$ around 14000$ plus 40% of book value.

Also i think there is a army tax and a few other small taxes and KDVs that took iit up to around 20k sterling.

car was booked at 23k,but they bottom booked it for him i beleive.

maybe he was rounding off the figure to me !

proger1,

Perhaps if your car is more than 2500cc, you pay US$5.11 on ALL the CC's: -

2,700 * US$5.11 = US$13,797 say 9137 GBP...

Then there is the issue that they apparently use the 'A1 - Dealer's forecourt price' - i.e. you don't get the value discounted because of condition, mileage, private sale etc, so the 'legit' valuation of 19,000 GBP could easily turn into 25,000 GBP or more, so 40% of 25,000 GBP gives you 10,000 GBP - add yhe 9,137 GBP, and you're not far short of 20 'grand'

DAMN, OK that makes more sense, well actually it doesn't make sense but it does explain the numbers. I think I will be off to see my mate Ufuk for the next motor.

Cheers for that explanation guys.

Dave,

How would YOU think my pool's looking?

Like a Zerochlor pool, that's how!

I took advantage of your grant and bought a year's supply this time, but got it from your mate at Sunset / Splash Pools, 'cos they're only just up the road from me, and you're bloody MILES away

Don't drink too much tonight, and if you do, don't start posting rubbish on here when you get back in at 3am...

You can use it as long as the UK tax is valid so if it needs an mot you've a problem also they look at the tax disc expiry date when setting your renewal paper times

what if the vehicle's brand new and doesn't need an MOT for 3 years, and someone in the uk brings out your tax disc, for you, could you keep it here for 3 years, before registering it here,???????

So .... I wonder if someone would be so kind and advise what I should expect to pay. I have a Peugeot 206cc 1.6 petrol. I have had it since new, May 2005 and it has done 16,000 miles (19,000 by the time I drive to Cyorus).

msg 20,

That's a new slant!

Very inventive - but I think that you would need to ask the customs and taxation people that question, and not rely on an opinion from the members on here.

It would be no comfort, as they were towing your car away, to say "But keithcaley said...."

judyr message 21. if your car was registerd may 2005 that makes your car now 5 years old and 2 months,im sure you can only import a car here up to 5 years old if your name is the only 1 on the log book and you have owned it from new, and 3 years if you are second or 3rd and so on owner. Im sure you could of just missed out by a few months on the rules of importing a car here that is over 5 years old, unless its a classic car that is,then the rules are diffrent again.classic car =25 years old and above.

But dont just take my word, maybe a call to the consulate in london might help you

Zero/Judyr

If a car is older that 3 years it can only be imported if the importers name is in the log book for 5 years plus uninterupted

I've just imported in July a 53 Fiesta before the duty rise now on LE TRNC plate

I would like to know the new duty rates for the cc/$ from whot you've posted its a 12% increase to 40% of Glasses Guide

Hi, New boy on block here. Can anyone tell me the calculations for the import duty on a 25 yr old car and how to do it.

Also what is the best route to drive from UK via Turkey to Kyrenia

HV,

You will need to join one of the classic car clubs to get permission to bring it in as a classic, the tax is very low and based on the value when first new.

A mate of mine has brought in 7 cars now from US and UK with no problem, but he knows the system, and as a TC does not have any language barrier.

I have suggested a couple of times on various forums that the only viable option is to bring in an old classic, maybe a Merc SL, or similar and enjoy classic motoring in a car that you could actually sell on for a profit.

on classic cars do you still pay the cc surcharge and do you have to have owned it for a minimum

of five years.

straitsadie

As I said above, my mate has brought in 7 cars now, all of them bought over the phone/internet, delivered to the shipper, and he lust collects them at Famagusta. They arrive with UK or US plates and he then re-registers them when he pays the tax. He is not a dealer, he imports them for himself.

No 'cc' charge, just a %age (I believe it's about 40%) but it's of the price when it was new i.e. over 25 years ago.

We bought in a classic Merc a couple of years ago and the tax was around the 40% mark. Do bear in mind though that Merc SL's (for example) were pretty pricey 25-30 years ago so it is not necessarily a cheap option.
