Steveafc, thank you for your comments ! did a sound check in the afternoon and everything was fine til they switched on their kitchen later (fat fryers etc) which drained the rest of the establishment of volts hence the equipment occasionally switching on and off, bit of a nuisance really. I wrote "Darkest Days" a while ago in a sort of classical style with sections and movements hence 9 minutes long and am surprised the amount of people who ask me to play it at concerts. as for the dancers !!!!!! ha ha point taken !! i was asked by the management not to play "dance type" songs until most had finished their meals so not to disrupt serving etc !! thanks again and look forward to seeing you and Mrs again regards Barry

Zerodave !!! not a bad evening considering the electric supply !!!! glad you had a nice time ! I think that bloke had a point considering it was just past midnight although I had no idea of the time, but thought he too aggressive in his appproach to the management ! think I know what we would have said but not too customer friendly cheers Barry (any chance filming "darkest days" at Soyz bar Sunday 25th please) ?????? got some people back ome wanna see it ta

I didn't mean that Barry, it was more of a confirmation question because the only reference I had seen was your comment about videoing above but I just looked on the events page and can see it there. I should have asked if it was the correct date, didn't think about how that might read, sorry. Looking forward to the 25th.

Thanks,

Paul

Did it ever occur to anyone that the title of the thread might put some of China Garden's potential customers off?

As usual we thoroughly enjoyed your music on Saturday night. Pity about the power problems, but at least you weren't rained off this time. Look forward to the Who "My Generation" - hopefully at Soyz on Sunday. Cheers Barry, we continue to enjoy.

Snakes, I was there that night and you showed yourself to be skilled musician. BUT, why do do you play so ear splittingly loud? The great majority of the audience were the wrong side of 50, but you play as though they were all teenagers who like being deafened. You must have seen the people leaving as you got into your act because they did not like their breastbones vibrating and being unable to speak to their companions.

I offer this as friendly criticism in the hope that you heed my words and turn the wick down several notches.

For those who are about to type " If you dont like it, dont go".

I have already made my mind up to do just that.

Snakes, it is not only you. Every act seems to think that they must be extremely loud. I wonder why.

Enrico. snakes gigs are loud, its the nature of rock music as im sure you know,i think what the problem is here in north cyprus is most of the venues are quite small,so of course we are all very close to the very big speakers and the closer we are the louder it feels.

But im sure snakes will answer for himself, just thought id have my 2 penneth, but i just dont think rock music would sound quite the same if you turn the wick down several notches?

I listend to the second half from the bar area and it was just as enjoyable.

Enrico ! thank you for your comments and opinions which have been noted ! however i must say that many years in the "rock" music business has proved that it should be loud and each human ear has different tolerance levels. You are quite misleading when you say "must have seen the people leaving as i got into my act" as only a few went whether through volume or other reasons ie "tired, baby," etc. The majority, whome I always cater for, stayed and enjoyed dancing til past midnight, infact more people arrived post 10.30pm. There's an old saying which i'm sure you must be aware, "you cant please everyone" and at some gigs I have been asked to "notch it up" !!! Please take heed of your own words which may be a clue ! that it is not just me its ALL other acts !! Enrico !! perhaps its YOU and how lucky to have such sensitive ears at our age ! regards Barry

OK Snakes, Point taken.

After all performers do attract a crowd so you must please most people so the simplest way will be for me to be absent and enjoy a few pints at a quieter establishment.

Good luck with your concerts.

msg. 3 and 4,

Most musicians in TRNC carry their own voltage regulators with them. Indeed it was my musician cousin who asked me ages ago to do something about the voltage problems and that is how I found myself importing them. Just look around and you will see that they all have ELKo brand regulators, mostly 3-5 KVA.

Hello Lor,

Thank you for your support ! unfortunately i dont do "Highway Star" at present. I normally record all backing tracks myself in studio and occasionally call on my UK keyboard player Simon when things get difficult as per the keyboards in Highway Star ! ouch ! how about another Purple song "Black Night" or "Smoke on the water" the "air guitar" anthem

Looseboots ! so sorry to hear you're an "old fart" dont look that bad to me ! next time you brave it to come and see me (lets hope you do) I will play you a rock anthem at low volume to demonstrate the effect it has on the "atmosphere" of the song. Oldshep didnt need a pool to jump in he poured a jug of water over his head every now and then what a laaarrf ha ha regards Barry
