Magolina, Pepper growing on a tree? Unless you know exactly what it is and the effects it will have on you afterwords, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Send it down to my GC cousins in the south to taste it, they are good at that.

Can you or should you?

First thing I'd do is stack some toilet paper in the fridge....

Post a link to photo and close-up of your tree and let's identify what it is....

Of course it might just be a Sumac tree (Rhus) and the red stuff is used all the time in Cyprus as a seasoning.

I saw these trees in Portugal and was also told they were pepper trees. They certainly smell like the green and red peppers you buy.

I've just found this article about how pepper grows and this does not look like the plant I have seen in Europe

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_pepper

This is a vine.

Malsanjak,

I think you are correct. Here is another one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schinus_terebinthifolius

Other articles I've read say to be careful of the sap as it can cause irritation or skins burns.

Anyway, it says that the berries can be dried and used as a pepper substitute.
