Has any one any Ideas on why we are over run with ants ?



They are comming out of electric sockets, from behind kitchen cupboards through gaps in the tiles in the bathroom.



I have spray and powder which does deter them but was wondering why ?? first time in 4 years we have had this.

Black Ants

Ants frequently build their nests in the insulation layers of houses and from there they penetrate up into the house itself through the cracks which inevitably appear in the concrete and cement. Below is a picture showing garden ants burrowing up from the wall of a cellar, notice that they virtually separate the concrete into separate grains hence you end up with a pile of what is actually sand

Nige, Are you a fan of Adam & the Ants? I have heard if you continually play their songs it attracts the ants. Just a thought!! ;)

Just copied this recipe for you.



Ant Tacos



2 tablespoons butter or peanut oil?

1/2 pound ant, ant larvae and pupae

3 serrano chilies, raw, finely chopped

1 tomato, finely chopped

Pepper, to taste

Cumin, to taste

Oregano, to taste

1 handful cilantro, chopped

Taco shells, to serve

Heat the butter or oil in a frying pan and fry the larvae or pupae. Add the chopped onions, chilies, and tomato, and season with salt. Sprinkle with ground pepper, cumin, and oregano, to taste. Serve in tacos and garnish with cilantro.

(I have not tried this recipe myself, but it does sound delicious)!!

We have had the same problem. When we were in the house in June the ants would come out whenever I was cooking, even running over the hob when the gas was on and the tiniest speck of sugar attracted hundreds, They were in some of the cupboards too, but only in the kitchen. I had my husband filling every liitle crack in the grouting. As a complete phobic of all things crawling it was doing my head in. We had brought one of those JML sonic insect deterrant things from the UK in case of cockroaches. I know for sure that they work on spiders because any that I saw in the house would be comatose or dead. We plugged it into the socket above the worktop where they were crawling most frequently and we didn't see any more. I don't know if this worked or it was the fact that I put ant powder all around the outside walls of the house a'la Exorcist style. I'm back in Northern Ireland now, so I don't know what it's like at the minute.

I noticed loads in the garden on the plants as well, so I'd also be obliged if somebody knows a cure.

You could try introducing cockroaches as they eat ants!



If the cockroaches become a problem, introduce rats, they eat cockroaches!



Large snakes eat rats!



Large snakes can be killed by large numbers of ants!









After that,...... you're on your own!

If they are really small then you have Pharoah ants.
