Went to Mot my car yesterday. I had an Emissions test certificate dated 14/12/2009. Was told by the Mot inspector that I had to have another Emissions test to coincide with my Mot. I thought Emissions tests for a petrol car were every 2 years. Mot every 3 years so how can they ever coincide.

Does anyone know the correct procedures regarding Mot and Emissions test?

Your emission test coincides with MOT, 3 years. Emission test must be taken close to the date of MOT.

Just another of the TRNC's little quirks !!

I really don't understand the requirement for an emissions test as it would appear that you can't fail it anyway. Looking at the age of many of the cars/vans/lorries on the roads, there is no way that they would pass any form of meaningful emissions test - that is of course assuming that these vehicles have MOT's

Yet another stealth tax by the government methinks !!

Thanks for your replies.

Went again this morning for Mot and it passed. Asked the inspector reference Mot/Emission test and he said what you have said, every 3 years for both and at the same time.
