Unfortunately the TRNC government! and I am afraid many of the so called business community just sees foreigners as rich milk cows and will screw them for all their worth. They are a get rich quick society and don't give a dammned for tomorrow.

Paul, Good article, well written BUT THIS IS JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBURG. Did not Dr Ergolu say that this could happen again, as it was under the old law? Is Dr Ergolu not aware of "memorandums" Is Dr Ergolu aware that PTP is being refused to Ex Pats on Pre 74 Turkish title. Will Dr Ergolu meet with a delegation of Ex Pats to explain that this is not a deliberate Government policy to deprive as many Ex Pats as possible of their lifes savings, before driving them out of The TRNC. WE NEED REASSURRANCE DR ERGOLU. If the TRNC is going to be recognised by the International community SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! wynyardman

read the link and it makes blood boil thats the nicest way I can put it. I am just one of many involved in the scandles going on here but the worse ones have got to be the amaranta valley and the kulakiz 5 auctions. You feel helpless and can only give or offer support to anything anyone can do to sort this out. what is so frustrating it could be done just like that if the government wanted to and thats the most frustrating thing. Just saw on BBC world that a big mafia gang have been arrested in Rome Italy pity cant happen here!

Paul Just going to ask the same question. there has to be someone in power who has the guts to take this on board. May be a stupid question but as Turkey is the only country that recognises TRNC can tteir powers to be approached. Could we not just turn up at Dct Ergolus office

Paul. 1 Reduce the time for PTP approval to one month. 2 Have the judiciary confirm that "registration" under The Estate Agents Law protects the purchaser from ANY encumberances (as we were promised) and that includes "memorandums". It would not help these poor people whose homes have gone under the hammer, but it will stop a lot of further grief. And if he wishes to be respected, rehouse these poor people at The Governments expense, or better still pay off the illegal bank mortgage, with its usurious interest rates, that was used as the vehicle to deprive these poor people of their homes. THIS IS WHAT WANTS PUTTING ON FACEBOOK until it is put right!! wynyardman

If only the Government would sort out the Kulaksiz 5 debacle they would earn themselves £112,000 in taxes.

But I'm sure that Marion Stokes and the HBPG have already voiced these concerns to both the last government & the new one so surely it's worth getting behind her efforts to demonstrate a united front?

Eroglu has made it quite clear in his electioneering for President that he will do everthing in his power to sort things out. He told representatives from both Amaranta and Kulaksiz at his reception at Pia Bella it was his intention to deal with things. After election, NOTHING!!!!!!!!! I and many others have written to the man both when he was PM and now as president, until recently he never even responded. Now apparently a minion sends out a confirmation of receipt before ignoring you. We even wrote in Turkish, paying obviously to get a proper translation. The man just is not interested or bothered. However if he made himself bothered and read the numbers that both Pauline Read and Joandjelly quote of unpaid taxes (unpaid due to incompleted homes) for just 10 homes, how much more is missing from state coffers. The last unofficial estimate was quoted in tens of millions of pounds. Enough to pay off half cta debts was one quote i READ.

Sorry to hear of this ongoing saga and lack of response from the powers that be. Has anyone thought of trying to contact Rauf Denktash or even Azil Nadir? Two of the richest and most powerful TCs north of the border. Neither of them are active politicians of course but they remain all-powerful and both have (or used to have) strong links with the UK so might - just - be sympathetic to expats' causes. As the old saying goes, 'its not what you know but WHO you know.'
