We've got the dish and the receiver and have been trying to tune in to a decent reception. Turkcell was rubbish, mainly news or documentaries and a lot of Arabic channels which suited hubby but bored me silly! Last night we redirected the dish and picked up Bader TV but most of the channels we picked up were scrambled and those that weren't left a little to be desired - again mainly documentaries and nothing in English for some lighter listening!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

You need SKY, with a big dish and SKY subscription. The expert on here is "Iceman"

'Turkcell' is the name of the local Mobile 'phone provider - so I'm not quite sure at which satellite you had pointed your dish...

However Nilesat will give you the best selection of Free to Air 'English language' programmes - albeit with 'foreign' sub-titles

Sorry Keith, I meant Turksat! Does anyone know the coordinates for Nilesat. It's really just a case I think of adjusting the dish so that we pick up the right signal.

pippie,

If you visit http://en.kingofsat.net/prefs.php and register, it will tell you where to point your dish for each satellite - giving compass bearing and elevation. It does need to know where you are though...

Çatalköy is at roughly 35°19′18″N 33°23′18″E

Unless you have a VERY fast uplink from the UK - and a reasonable downlink in 'TRNC' I doubt you will be satisfied.

I have played around with slingboxes for a long time and I'm now testing them on a 100bit uplink ( at least 100times faster than most UK ADSL broadband connections ) with favourable results, with a view to offering folk in places where they can't GET sat tv - because no dish big enough will get it

If you want the best UK tv picture - in Cyprus - there is no substitute for the sat dish route .. but if you can't - then IF this tests work out - and you have a fast enough connection in CY - it MIGHT just be an alternative..

Hans uses one to watch Dutch TV and swears by it !
