Ive found that the only way to make them get the pill is to make them swallow in one piece. For all those years I cannot manage to make them take it in any kind of food.



Although it seems really cruel from the outside (noone is hurt though) these links explains the method Ive been doing...

The only thing different from the explanation in the link for me is, Ive hold our cats mouth closed quite a little longer cause I know that he'll be waiting for me to let him go and he keeps the pill inside his mouth so that he can just run out from my lap and spit!!

msg 2...this cat becomes so extremely feral when you even try to so much as open her mouth...putting the pill inside is quite simply not an option...this has to be done liquidly...



msg 3...if only this cat would just sit in my arms....again...not going to happen....



I think she actually smells it on me....

Daisy - I used to wrap a towel round mine, that immobilises the limbs, then administer the pill.

Sounds as though that would be difficult with yours though!

a word of warning - the towel won't stop her BITING you...

You can get gadgets for administering tablets that help to keep your fingers out of biting range though, and just to keep you amused while you're sat in casualty, you could browse through these 4 million or so ways of giving a cat a tablet : -

Dairylea cheese always works with mine, but you have to be careful to make sure you hide it in the middle and they usually lick the cheese a bit off your finger, but then it gets too tempting and they take the whole bit that's let, with pill in it of course, and swallow the whole lot. I would say this has worked for me at least 85% of the time. Occasionally they smell a rat and spit the pill out and then you are done for !!!

moz i have to put pills in cheese for my dogs, never tried it with cats though, the lenghts we go to when vets do it so well, i use cream cheese the amercian one which they love, i crush them so much so the dont know, other than that i try ice cream x

Diasy I have an easy solution, and generally they won't spit it out. I use either a tube of hairball release cream or a tube of cat toothpaste. Both of these are in an almost thick treacle like paste which they will generally just lick of your finger. I don't risk this when giving a pill, so keep the tube in the fridge so the gel is very thick, crush the pill up and mix with the paste, very quickly before it starts to melt, put it on your finger, then quick as you can, sit beside your cat, quickly open her mouth and put it in the side of her mouth. my cats always look at me in amazement as to why I've done this with something they like and normally lick off my finger. They very seldom spit this out as they like the taste. Hope it works for you. One of mine is on antibiotics at the moment, and have to give her a pill twice a day, and this is how I do it. Before you crush the pills, pls do check it with your vet!!!

Some pills just not to be crushed!!

It could be fatal to give a crushed pill to your beloved ones!!



Packing with towel tightly does work and it was on the first link I gave to you!

Sorry Daisy but this is the only solution I could work, being determined and using a little force without harming is what I come up with.



Or if dogankoy is on your way, bring the cat in, I will give the pill and show you how it could be done..

Hi Sam - we do Baykol's method with our feral cat - except that one of us holds the cat, wrapped in the towel, while the other opens its jaws, and holding the [worming] pill in a pair of [blunt] plastic tweezers, pushes the

pill to the back of the throat on top of the tongue and hold the jaws shut for longer than you think should be necessary!
