Please only answer me if you actually know... I have tried several different contacts now and no one can tell me definately one way or another. I am driving over in 2 weeks time in my car, hopefully. We were originally coming over in April so it would not have been an issue but things got a bit behind and we had to postpone it to the end of July. I have owned the car from new and it was first registered at the end of May 2005, so just 2 months over the 5 year limit. However I have been advised that if it is over 5 years, provided I am the only named keeper then it will be ok. I would be grateful if someone could help me with this as soon as poss.

Many thanks

Judy

Unless they've changed the bloody rules again then as the original owner you can bring it in.

Do try and check with customs in Lefkosa first though.

Thanks for the link - but it makes no reference to length of ownership - so I'm still a bit in the dark.

Thanks - Judy

2 THE CAR MUST HAVE A CURRENT TAX DISC AND MOT FROM COUNTRY OF ORIGIN

3 THE IMPORT TAXES MUST BE PAID WITHIN 1 YEAR OF ARRIVAL IN THE TRNC

YES,you can bring your car over (import it) since the car had been in your name for 5+years even though it is over 5 years opf age providing it is your first time to import a vehicle.

Off to get an import license for a friend in the morning,I'll double check it as well just to make sure they've not changed the rules.

Do you have to pay any taxes if you take your car back to the UK within a year?

As both I and Yorgozlu have said;

if you've owned it from new there should be no problem

Unless they've changed the rules again.

whats the rule's for importing up to a 250cc motorbike, as thinking of buying maybe a 2/3/4 year old bike riding it over then registering it here, also could i keep it on the road before re-registering the bike, cost of bike around £600 £800 sterling,

i've been told your the man in the know.

from what I have also been told, if you have owned the car from new you can bring the car in

the duty takes place if you keep the car and not return back to UK with the car

like they say here check out their policy on bringing cars in , its a problem if the car is still in Cyprus after one year

msg 8,

johnnybgoode;

Just make sure the vehicle is NOT older then 3 years and all will be fine.

However,I've ridden in all over europe but I wouldnt be very confident with a 250 cc bike to ride all the way to Cyprus.

cont msg 12,

Also,if you've already imported a vehicle the rule for being able to keep it on the road for a year does not apply.You must pay the duties on arrival.If that is the case the vehicle also can NOT be older then 3 years of age.

thanks yorgozlu,

this will be the first import, so i'll get something less than 3yrs old, do i need any paperwork before setting off to buy as not set a date as of yet.

i.m taking the route through france, down through italy to bari ferry over to turkey{izmir} then ferry from mersin across, hopefully giving my arse a rest from all that sitting down. i've had a quote froma shipping co: for just under £500 and will have to wait nearly 4weeks for the bike, thats why i thought about riding it here.

many thanks once again

Just to answer your original question... as it's not clear from the TRNC Info site posted.

If the car is under three years old it does not matter how long you've owned it. If it's over three years old then you must have owned it for at least the last five years. In this respect as long as the car has been owned by you as the named owner on the log book you will be OK.
