Butter in moderation! I once read an article that put me off margarine forever. It said that margarine is basically 'plastic' after all the processing it goes through. Who wants to eat plastic?

It has to be butter. I even use butter in all my baking (I buy loads when it's on offer and feeze it) as it gives it a much nicer taste. Your idea Navek reminds me of one of my husbands favourite things - split a wheatabix, spread with butter and marmite and wash down with copious amounts of tea or coffee, bizarre!

Not sure if there is any medical benefit in my cunning plan to defeat "cholesterol bursts" but it surely removes the guilt of eating too much butter (which I love) or margarine. To avoid both in large quantities I have convinced myself that fried egg or bacon etc, cooked in olive oil, on toast is just as enjoyable as if the toast were buttered. I also eat other foods on toast without butter or margarine such as sardines, baked beans, salmon etc. Sandwiches with very fresh bread moistened with lettuce, tomatoe and other ingredients of choice, less butter and margarine, can be equally enjoyable. Takes a little getting used to, but for me, the butter is not missed. The good part is, if I wan't to eat cheeese with crackers from time to time, I do not hesitate to use butter big time believing that I deserve it. For total peace of mind I pop 10 mil of Lipitor per day. Me hoss, darwn it, sticks to Hay and can also eat 3 Weetibix without milk . Farts like a six shooter !

Crofter, Marg is only 1 (one) molecule short of being plastic! That's close enough for me - bring on the butter!

Butter out of choice every time. Unfortunately have to watch cholesterol and was surprised that I liked Remia (cholesterol free), but definitely not the "lite" variety. My favourite was always Anchor !! Martinev
