Its me again ! Barry Snakes rocks the great Soyz Bar in Catalkoy Sunday 25th at 8pm til late. what a great time we all had last time and have some new blockbusters like Guns and Roses "Sweet Child O Mine" (my latest challenge from Paul of Kings Bar Esentepe) " The Wall" by Pink Floyd and a few other new songs all rocky and dancey ! this is a great family run bar offering cheap drinks and a great selection of burgers with different marinades with home made chips salad etc so come and have a great time ! see you there regards barry

Johnnybgoode !! now theres a name from the past really showing age now ha ha I remember watching Duane Eddy as a youngster thinking wow how fantastic to play like that ! One of the greats along with Bert Weedon, Hank Marvin even the early Rock n Rollers how they played those "cheese cutter" strings ouch ! cheers Barry

Only on the 25th Dave any other time aint me ! but promising a really rocky night with some new greats and an Oldshep request that I started work on today "Smooth Criminal" by, would you believe, "Alien Ant Farm" a real show stopper and cant wait to try it, although drums very ard ! see if our kit can do it ! Also our friend Chicken has asked for ages for "My Generation" so working on that and Steve Miller band "The Joker" but cant turn my act into "Dale Wintons" request hour ha ha ! cheers Barry

Hello Dave ! you would think after all these years i wouldnt need to but am continually trying to vary my sets to give a variety but still in the rock genre although Lionel Richie and Simply Red far from rock ! busy working on "oldsheps" "smooth criminal" by the ever famous Alien Ant Farm ha ha its a very guitar rocky version of Micheal Jacksons song blimey its ard !!!lets hope for a big turnout again see ya Sunday cheers barry

Thanks Oldshep ! was watching "Fools n Horses" last night and Delboy waved a £20 note to a so called Spanish Guitarist (cockney geezer with a wig) and said "play old shep" I have to say i thought of you ha ha sad but funny ! I can assure you most of the stuff I play is hard for me sometimes the most simple stuff is difficult to play especially after a dozen effes ! see ya there Dave and bring yer mates to support this lovely family.cheers Barry

Snakes, sorry for being ignorant but what or who exactly are you using for drums and where exactly is Soyz bar? Only perhaps one day my Tico Torres signature snare which is getting a little frustrated hidden in the wardrobe with the Ziljian, Istanbul agops and Pearl kit might see the light of day to play again. In case you were thinking they have worked too for a living before coming here 6 years ago.

Wings (pip) I do drumming myself on a Roland V20 in the studio. Although I realise it may be a "real" drummers nightmare, its great for a novice drummer like me although having a drumming brother was always wacking his when he not at home ha ha ! its a shame that your kit is not being used, always sad to know there are musicians who are not playing ! Tried to form a band when first here but thats another story ! Soyz Bar is on the main road in Catalkoy on the left before the Malpas ! I like playing there a lot of nice people who have fun ! hope to see you Sunday regards barry

Yinandyang ! thank you for that not heard it since the 70's Be Bop were one of my favourite "groups" as we aued to call them and a fab guitarist I think he played a Gibson 345 wow you rarely hear a gibson played like that ! terrific. keep rocking ! cheers Barry

spot on with the Gibson Guitar for Bill Nelson in BBD, not sure which model though. A very talented and creative musician who though widely critically acclaimed, was too far ahead of the time to be commercially successful.



Wonder if he is now playing in the pubs in Yorkshire?



Very few 'true' musicians like yourself get the airtime they warrant. The drivel churned out now for the kids is abhorrant.......................must be getting old!!!

Yinandyang, thanks for reminding me it was Bill Nelson ! he also had a very unusual but appealing voice as I remember and was touring under his own name in the UK,s smaller venue like one of my favourites ! the Stables Milton Keynes owned and run by the Dankworth family as in Johnny and Clio. there are some really nice smaller venues around that seat around 300 people a little nicer to play than stadiums of up to 20,000 !

He also had a website http://www.billnelson.co.uk which is under "new ownership" so not sure what happened there ! thanks for your nice words hope to meet soon regards Barry
