I'm getting 6.3% at present. (Gone are the halcyon days of 5 years back, when 24% was normal!!) Not the highest possible rate , but certainly the safest. If HSBC goes down, the whole world is in dead trouble! And no, it is NOT a franchise.

Go and talk to Julie Younger, the English bank manager, who will explain it all to you

Go to most other banks and you will get a higher rate than HSBC.

Just moved all our cash that was with HSBC to Garanti, which is the largest privatley owned bank in Turkey.

Branch next to Deniz Plaza in Girne, upstairs talk to Tanya who speaks perfect English.

Thank you all for the info I will pass this on to my Son, I'm sure HSBC must be the safest

Paul where is Creditwest as I will pass that on also,

Do they give better rates for Long Term or does it depends on the amount you pay in

Go to Garanti, they are as safe as HSBC within the banking regulations of TRNC. Or even Turk bank but do not use HSBC.

Interest on internet 9.25%.

If worried about safetly then keep away from TRNC banks. We have accounts with good interest at Credit West and Iktisatbank but they are both TRNC. Depends on your risk assesment.

There are Creditwest branches in Karalangolu and Karakum on the main road.

I get just over 9% on a monthly TL savings account.

Smithy,

If your son wants to be safe then any of the Turkish Banks such as Garanti, TEB, Turk Bank, HSBC etc but he will not get as high an interest rate as he will if he went to one of the local banks ie Creditwest, Iktisatbank etc.

Choice is his!

Seker Bank is also good, one corner down from HSBC. Moved from HSBC a long time ago, terrible queues

and very unhelpful, bank charges that appeared could not be explained.

All the banks have to insure accounts for 20,000E per account, you can have as many accounts as you wish so keep each account under this level. Turkish banks are likely to be safer than a local bank if there was ever a problem. This is reflected in a slightly lower rate for the turkish banks than island banks.

stella

straight on at HSBC roundabout coming from Lapta. Deniz Plaza about 100yards on left and garanti just past.

Awful parking, we take next left and park on side road some where.

Give Tanya a ring on 0392 815 8592, make an appt just in case she is busy. Her English is perfect.

Also have internet banking which I think is an excellent site http://www.garanti.com and rates are better on line. We have just bought our house insurance there, being a Turkish company better chance of not failing.

Good luck and do not tell her I sent you!!!! lol
