We have just been advised by our neighbours that we have an electric bill of 119 04 ytl for the period 16th June to 23rd July and are quite shocked as we left N Cyprus in the early houirs of 21st June. The only things that are on, are the pool pump, the water pump and the fridge freezer. I have calculated we have used 10 units per day.

Has anyone any idea if this sounds correct? If so we are going to have to drastically alter our budget for electric charges(our good neighbour pays our bill for us)

We are charged 0.214615 per unit for 1st 234 units and 0.281026 for next 234 units. So it costs 50.20 ytl for 1st 234 units then 65.76 for next 234 units. So it looks like you used around 480 units in 37 days which is around 13 units a day. Our pool pump uses around 1 unit per hour of operation. Maybe someone should check your water usage in case the water pump has been going on and off. Personally, I wouldn't leave the water pump on when you are not there for long periods of time, if you have a burst pipe (we have) then it will flood the house in no time.

Also, in the heat of the summer, with no AC on in the house, the ambient temperature will be hotter than outside (door/windows shut) so the fridge pump will run continuously trying to cool down the interior, which it won't do very efficiently anyway as it will struggle to dissipate the heat.

Better to eat the fridge/freezer contents down before leaving and switching off.

How many hours a day is the pool pump running, if he timer has been switched to constant by someone, then this will account for a lot of electric.

Hi all,

This sounds really expensive??

Is it currently 2.5 ytl =£1?

So could not having a metre and being on a fixed rate per month of around 120ytl possibly work out cheaper then?

I have a 3 bed apartment due to complete end of this year and will only use possibly 5-10 weeks a year- So am curious how much electric Id use roughly?

Take care d
