Hi daisy dukes, not sure about the 5800, but anytime I have been out of Dubai to unlock my 6131 I have to unlock using the Pin1 number that comes on the card that has the chip for whatever country I am in. Hope that makes sense and helps.

Or take it to Tin Pan Alley.....where any of the shops there will do it for you. İts the road behind the Colony Hotel.

sunshine22, you can get a PAYG sim card from Turkcell or Telsim that are generally available (also at supermarket Lemar) You will need an unlocked phone to make use of them, so possibly better to do that before you come over.

Thanks greenman, do you know if I leave my Dubai sim in until I get over to TRNC and then change to PAYG sim card would it still be unlocked?

Would it be easier to buy a cheap phone in TRNC with a PAYG sim card?

Buying a cheap phone and using a PAYG card would be the best option.

You can buy a brand new Nokia (earlier model) for as low as 60TL

Hi Sunshine, Sorry I missed your reply, but can add this further information. Regarding your existing 5800 phone and Dubai sim card. You may find that your Dubai sim works in the TRNC if the phone operator has an agreement with Turkcell/Telsim, however you won't know this until you come over unless another member has this information.

Iceman tells us that the 5800 cannot be unlocked, however on this link http://nokia5800.net/forum/topic/how-easy-to-unlock-a-5800 it suggests that your phone may already be unlocked (try a friends sim card from another operator) and if not then an unlocking code is available.

These things change and it may be worth checking at a Dubai phone shop. Unlocking will cost in the region of £10. You will then be able to use any PAYG Sim card - so when you come to TRNC that will cost you 20TL including 100 credits. It's a simple matter of taking out your Dubai sim and putting in the TRNC sim.

Msg 11

greenman.

If you scroll back and read my reply to sunshine on msg 6 you will notice i did NOT say Nokia 5800 cannot be unlocked.

my exact words were "i was told (by a phone repair shop) THEY CAN'T unlock Nokia 5800"
