Hi Guys, can any one give me an idea on price for central heating in a 3 bed villa? Pipework is already there.

John.

It would depend on if you wanted oil or gas, how many radiators, if you wanted hot water etc.

John,

Research this carefully.

Gas is quite expensive, oil fired as far as I understand, you buy diesel at the pump price, not a cheaper heating fuel as in the UK. Some friends of ours have oil fired in the house they rent, cost them a fortune over Christmas last year.

Also, not seen any water additives for CH systems in Cyprus (furnox or similar) make sure you bring some from the UK for when you fill the system. You can now get this in a concentrated form to inject into a radiator and it will circulate round from there.

I would agree with Brian that you should research this. Our house came with piping too but none in the bathrooms where I would like it most! A neighbour paid about £3000 for the radiators and a gas installation which they hardly use. I believe it is more expensive to run than using air conditioning units on heat. We have a wood burning stove and oil filled radiators in the bathrooms (these are quite expensive to run but are only on for a short time). We supplement this by putting the air con on in bedrooms before going to bed plus we wear lots of layers in the winter ;-)

Do not think there are many who have added the things after building so will be difficult to get a price.

We do not or intend to have CH. It is just not cost effective. You pay all that money to use it for 3-4 weeks a year and the price of fuel is rising by the day.

We use mobile gas fire plus when fitted will use air con unit to warm bedroom up before retiring for the boss to get changed!!!!!!!! This is our third year so am not talking short spells of living here.

Sit down with your flipchart and do all the pros and cons of why you want CH.

We also decided against central heating, not just for the cost, but because it would hardly ever be used.

We were quoted £5000 for 3 bed villa with radiators in all bedrooms, and one downstairs in lounge!!

Three years ago 8 radiators and an oil fired boiler cost us £2,000. Each winter we have used about half a ton of diesel and it has kept the house nice and warm all winter. The first winter we used one ton but then I put a timer in and that halved the usage.

One of our better buys.

Next door had theirs done prior to last winter by Warmlife they did a superb job for I think £3,000 but it was gas fired and they had an extra radiator.

I had central heating installed, but am in the process of dismantling it and installing a log burner, When I last filled the tank, 750 Litres cost me 975YTL and it lasted 4-5 weeks,(Only on in the evening) It stinks to high heaven and the boiler is quite noisy.

The smoke stack from the Log burner will go thru the ceiling into the main bedroom and exit from there(therefore warming the bedroom too).

Am buying wood at the moment and its costing a quarter of what they charge for it in the depths of winter plus there are so many pallets around on abandond building sites.

TBH, i didnt have the heating on last winter and got by, with extra layers and an Electric Blanket.

a open fire or log burner is probably the cheapest way to heat your house. the locals just put on extra jumpers and use the calor type gas fires. you only need heating for a few weeks a year, why spend a lot of money on something you will use very little. also in the favor of calor gas fires you can put them out of the way, into the garage in the summer.

We looked at adding central heating but didn't bother on the advice of our solicitor who said we would never recoup the cost for something you'd only use for 1 month per year. We instead installed a wood burner in the living room and have a paraffin heater in the kitchen/diner (only smells when nearly run out of fuel). We found that in the bedroom if you put the air con on heat for about 15 minutes before going to bed this takes the chill off the room. Hot water bottles/electric blanket is a must.

Hi Pipie

Can't say for sure as we haven't had the calor gas ones but I understand they do dry the air and make you feel sleepy. The paraffin doesn't appear to do that and I think paraffin as a fuel may be a cheaper option now that the cylinders are going up in price.

Try Dave on WARMLIFE 05338688619 Did ours last year to pre piped villa made a great job of it We went for gas as it works out pretty much the same as oil to run and you can get repairs done by English engineers over hear were as with the oil fired you are at the mercy of oil mechanics which are very exspesive and rare on the ground 7 Rads and 2 towel rails cost us £3200 inc boiler with scale reducer and system inhibitors to protect the pipework and boiler from sludgeing up (as far as Im aware on people that do this over here)Good Luck

Hi all,

Anyone know where I can buy electric towel rails from in the TRNC?

I am having a log burner put in for the winter but would like to take the chill off the bathroom and dry the towels.

Hi pambonn,

I bought my woodburner from Ray at Greenium. They are on the parade of shops opposite the KPet Garage

in Karakum. You will need to go in and see him soon, as he will be ordering his stoves in soon. He will come out to your home and tell you what size stove you will need. You decide which stove in that size you like and he will give you a price. I know several people who have had stoves installed by him and everyone is happy.

We had central heating fitted when the house was built and each rad has thermostatic valves. Had it on for a week over Christmas as it was a very cold spell.

It used loads of gas, so won't be using it very much again.

your air con if hot and cold is very cost efective and you have them already i think the best form of heating is under floor as out here the tiles are cold the house is cold heat rises and so down stairs tilles always cold dont waste loads os money installing a syatem that is going to cost you the same money as air con
