I believe they met for the first time on July 15th. Awaiting the minutes to the meeting to see what was discussed and what suggestions were put forward.

Do you have any faith that things might change as a result of this?

Unfortunately it just sounds like the usual platitudes ,lip service , and going through the motions.

No firm promises or commitment to do anything.

No retrospective action to help the multitude of property victims.

I'm afraid it just sounds like hot air and bluster....but I genuinely would like to be proved wrong.

"Do you have any faith that things might change as a result of this?".

No, I'm afraid not. But, like Cronos, I would dearly love to be proved wrong.

A good start. It amazes me that the 'ministers' always claim to have no knowledge about the issues involved. Questions to Marian Stokes like 'What do you want from the government' should be 'This is what the government proposes....'.

cronos, "I genuinely would like to be proved wrong"

That's what I said about the PCO in 2006. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." I'm afraid I have absolutely no faith in the Task Force's ability to do anything other than to sidetrack foolish aggrieved property buyers. Any government group that opens their first meeting having to ask "what the complaint is" has absolutely no chance in being able to make the necessary changes. Marian Stokes has got far more patience than I'd ever have.

I think that anyone expected to see anything done from a group whose first meeting was 15th July knows nothing about TRNC.

It is too hot to mess about going to meetings and most people in government circles are on holiday at some point during the period to 12th Sept. I know that of 5 people, at least one did nto turn up for first meeting.

I have a feeling that strikes and other action in coming weeks are likely to take precidence over "housing problems", that is before Motherland comes and kicks a*** and takes over the running of country. They have had enough of spoon feeding a group of greedy, lazy public employees.

How many times have we seen these sort of initiatives from the 'government' only for them to fade away a few weeks later. Purely a PR stunt by a government full of promises and unable to deliver on any of them - unless of course it involves the raising of taxes or petrol prices, which appears to be achievable overnight.

Or am I just being cynical ???

David and Paul,

Some would see your posts as cynical....I personally see them as realistic.

It is pure spin and PR...they have no intention of doing anything because there is nothing in it for them.

Unfortunately I think the latest strikes will be the start of many in the TRNC in a "summer of discontent"

There is everything in it for them, if they don't get their act together there won't be a TRNC - it will proberly be a province of Turkey.

It's the same old story. they will tell you something that they think you want to know. They did with the PCO, an absolute waste of time. Remember you are foreigners, you are rich for picking. You will never get any favours.

Oops!

should have put this on the positives thread!!!

troodo,

This time next year it will be a province of Turkey, they are just to short sighted to see it.

I think that this shows that the TRNC government is really showing that it understands the issues and is starting positive initiatives to address them. It is clearly taking a dynamic role in reaching out to it's stakeholders and customers whilst embracing diversity and fairness. It's acknowledging and welcoming the need for transparent government and respect for human rights. It's a positive action step towards it's yet unpublished goals of updating the legal system and laws for the benefit of good governance and fairness to the people without prejudice of nationality, race, religion or creed.
