We are in Catalkoy.Take the turning off the main road near Supreme supermarket into Catalkoy or towards the mountains (going east from Girne towards Esentepe) then take the first right pass by The Fez and follow our signs. We are about 100 m past Dedeman Olive Tree Hotel.

Alternatively,if you are coming from the east(Tatlisu-Esentepe way)either take the turning opposite Bo-Thai or Tempo Supermarket towards Catalkoy-mountains and follow our signs.

Msg 8 Have you not heard of making a profit? Having had a restaurant thats where you make your money food is often a loss when you calculate the wastage. Thats why they are in business and not a charity.

rowlo get a life or try being positive about an up market venue. Not everyone wants cheap beer, chips and karioke!

Midsummer House, Efendi, Patina, 14 and Dragon Rocks charge more than Windows Cafe, the Pakistani restaurants(Which are excellent) and Guido's but you pay for what you get!

Something negative to say about the TRNC - "I don't believe it" !!

Amazes me that you spend half your time on here deriding people who 'dare' to complain about being ripped off for tens of thousands of pounds by rogue builders/advocates then moan yourself about an upmarket restaurant 'ripping off' customers by charging 6TL (about £2.60) for a beer.

If you want to sit by a roadside eating kebab and chips then you can expect to pay 3-5TL for a beer but surely even you must acknowledge that if you go to a restaurant that has invested significantly in it's decor, fitments etc, then you have got to expect to pay a bit more.

Rowlo - have you actually tried the restaurant or are you just one of those who is happy with a burger and chips or a kebab and throwing a negative slant at those who prefer something a little upmarket ?

We went when they first opened and were very impressed with the decor and food ( lots of choice), but the price of drinks was a killer. Now that the drinks are more resonable we will try again.

I seem to remember in a previous thread Erdin saying he didn't welcome the type of people who queried drinks' prices.

Has he changed his mind as trade was not so good ?

Erdin,

Thank you for listening to the feedback, you have without doubt the best place in NC, hope the reduced prices helps you bring more people to your place the last thing we would want is it to close.

Rowlo,

Before you make comment I suggest you try it out first

PMF68. "You have without doubt the best place in NC". Nice comment. Depends what you are aiming your service or product at. Tourists or residents. Tourists in short supply these days. Residents, know the market well.

My wife and I visited the restaurant 3 times at the end of April during our 10 day stay at her parents place in Catalkoy.

Our 1st visit was a bit late in the evening and I was concerned that we were too late to dine, I didn't phone before hand due to not knowing the tel. no. so used my directional skills too find it. We were welcomed warmly by Erdin and had the most awesome meal. We sat and chatted with Erdin & Angela afterwards and found them genuine hard working lovely people. A week later it was our wedding anniversary, so I managed to get a card and some beautiful flowers, dropped into see Angela and left them with her and said we would be up later in the afternoon. Our neighbour dropped us up there and we enjoyed a great bottle of Champagne in the garden, while Angela waiting anxiously for the right moment to bring the flowers out to my wife. The waiter who kept us topped up was great, not one of those chaps who would hover around you, he would just appear at the right time.

When my wifes folks arrived towards the end of our stay, we again went there this time for afternoon tea along with their neighbours. The weather that day was a bit poor with frequent heavy showers, however we all enjoyed a wonderful tea in the conservatory beside the pool.

We will be returning in Sep. for a couple of weeks, so will hopefully try and get a game of tennis in at Midsummer House.

Exceptional Food.

Beautiful Gardens.

Hard working, Lovely Owners.

Great Staff.

ENJOY

Thanks for your comments everyone.msg 20 Paul,a tip from me take rowlo on his offer if he is true to his word ( in fact i`ll have some of that bet) " any amount he likes".

msg 25 Vincent 1,I always welcome genuine customer comments, hence dropping the drinks prices as a marketing strategy. What i don`t welcome is people like Rowlo who don`t know the difference between a kebap place and an upmarket restaurant who invested handsomely and who pay a lot of attention to detail for comfort and enjoyment of its`patrons and all they can see is paying a couple of tl more for a bottle of beer!!!

Yes,it is hard times for everyone these days and that is why we have to try harder but I will not drop standards and quality and if this is not appreciated by enough people then i would rather close than accommodate Rowlo kind of customers.

Regards to everyone

erdin,

your food quality, presentation, ambiance, and professionalism at Mid Summer House makes a visit worth every penny.

Take pride and courage from the positives listen to genuine complaints or concerns but ignore the knockers, they are soooo obvious and predictable.

See you soon and in the distant future!!

Hi

Just to confirm that The summerhouse is well worth every penny. visited twice while we were out there a couple of weeks back and will be going back in October. We all like a bargain and we go to many of the local cafes which we also enjoy for differant reasons but if it is a special place with special food that you are looking for then this is it!!

We had lunch there back in May/June - Service was excellent - My course was a little disappointing but my other half was really pleased with his pasta dish.

The owner was in attendance and made us very welcome.

The restaurant is well sign posted so you can't get lost.

If you go to a high-class establishment and spend, say, 60-80TL er person on your meal including drinks, why would a couple of lira here or there influence your decision?

Even if you drank a bottle of wine, 2 beers and a few shorts, by yourself, the overall difference would be so negligible. You probably wouldn't be aware anyway!

If the prices come down, your 60-80TL bill will now be 55-75TL. Can you imagine, "I'll go if it will cost me 75, but not 80!"

If you increase your prices, people would still moan, do nothing they still moan. I wonder if the moaners have any intention of ever trying your restaurant?

Where's the bookie offering odds? I'll have a wager!

Have been to Midsummer House several times, but not on a reguarly basis.

Have introduced friends and relatives and without exception all are agreed it is a fantastic restaurant and has replaced Patina as our "special restaurant".

However the drinks were over priced, I did mention thia to Erdin on our first visit and told him it would put the Brits of.

It`s all about principle and budget.

Quite happy to pay more for a super meal, which is what you always get at Midsummer House in glorious surroundings but a beer is a beer 10tl was silly, 7tl was pushing it, 6tl is just about acceptable.

If you like to go out 3-4 times a week and like a drink paying over the odds starts to get expensive.

Well done Erdin you were always on our A-List now you are promoted to our reguarly visit A-List!

Msg 30 Thats a good point. But you are a tourists. The definition is clear people who "travel to and stay in places outside their usual environment for more than twenty-four (24) hours and not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited." Dined at Midsummer's last night. Absolutely perfect. Just sorry we hadn't tried it before now. Gardens are gorgeous, setting & music so tranquil. Staff very professional. Food ...well....Mmmmmmmmmm. Loved the canapes / sorbet - unexpected & a great touch. 10 out of 10 & possibly the best meal we have had in Cyprus.

Well done Erdin & Team.

Tell me I am wrong. But if it is so brilliant at this restaurant and the guy is making loadsa dosh.

Then why reduce the prices?

Obviously the customers who go there are quite prepared to pay the prices charged.

Dont seem right somehow.

Dropping prices, in an upmarket restaurant? Using Daniel Clifford a 2 star michelin chef's restaurant name in Cambridge and trying to charge his prices in North Cyprus. Oh please. Something original maybe?. How about changing the name and reopening, Call it "The Gladstone" after a well known Peterborough street. Good luck with your restaurant and its survival your going to need it in spite of a small band of dedicated followers. Especially after the remarks about types of clientèle.

Daniel Clifford`s prices!!! I don`t think so.You couldn`t get a glass of wine there for the price of a meal. Thanks for your suggestion about changing our name.Maybe we should call it "Joe`s cafe" and do nightly karaoke as well.
