booked a table at the carob rooftop restaurant in the harbour for july day celebrations.

5 adults and 2 children.we,ve regularly used carob for 10 years.now its under new management by dick turpin it seems!food was basic, steaks were pitiful, grey in colour and certainly not serloin.

mixed kebabs the lads had were cold, and poor quality.DRINKS:-no price list! expected to pay over the odds as we were in the harbour, when the bill came, drinks were dearer than the food!

2X small shandies,20ytl(but a bottle efes is 7ytl and lemonade was 5ytl),jd and coke 17ytl,local gin and tonic 12ytl,can of yedigun 10ytl !!

price for meal was 470ytl,questioned the manager(after joining the queue of unhappy customers) but she wasnt having any of it.told her we would never use the carob again, she offered us 5ytl back as an apology!

upshot of it all,poor food,poor service,ridiculously expensive,total rip off,it spoiled the evening.

residents and tourists beware!!

gordon ramsey would have a dicky fit!!!

Thanks for the warning. That is a lot of hard earned money to have taken from you. I can confirm that the consumer's association have come up with some very good results if you decide to take the matter further. The proprieter is deserving of being at the bottom of the harbour choked by a 5 lira note, as the derisery offer.

before we ate, one of the waiters was moaning about the lack of tourists and customers.you have to question what will happen to this island as the place is getting the reputation as a holiday destination tourists only visit once, same as most of the restaurants and bars in the harbour!ask most expat residents what they think of the harbour and theyll tell you to steer clear! how bad is that for business?

i just cant get my head around the turkish way of business...where a drop in customers ,tourism and takings ,means they whack prices right up,serve lesser quality food and stingy portions, and believe me,you never return to somewhere when you leave feeling like youve been ripped off!

when will they realise,if you serve better food and drinks at better prices than your competitors, you get a full bar and restaurant.

as the old business saying goes...,"its better to profit smaller all the time, than profit big once"

food for thought? say no more!

the carob restaurant is on your left hand side halfway round the harbour.its touted as an italian restaurant,i must admit, its a beautiful place, very old,its just a shame the new management are operating it in this way.

I think that anyone who goes to the harbour should go in

I think that anyone who goes to the harbour should go in ask for a table but then ask the name of the place, when they tell you say no thank you we have changed our minds as this is the place that ripped off those people on freedom day.

THEY WILL GET THE MESSAGE that we all warn each other.

Snakes: Hi, do you play the end lead guitar solo for 'Sultans of Swing' [Dire Straits] - cos if so, tell us when and where, and we'll be there!

Only a Kiwi [Maori chords!] guitar plucker asking!

I have been known to keep a pub 'alive' with a few Kevin 'Bloody' Wilson songs, though!!!

We ate in the harbour two weeks ago having boycotted it for some years mainly due to the quality and price of food - however two of our guests were TRNC first timers and I don't think the harbour at night should be missed. During the walk into and around the harbour we had run the normal gauntlet of waiters tempting us into their restaurants which without exception we had turned down in a totally courteous manner - following dinner we retraced our steps and at one stage broke into two groups - the ladies seperately from the men who were watching the world cup semi-final on one of the many big screens. The group of ladies were approached by a waiter from one of the first restaurants we had arrived at who demanded to know why we hadn't chosen his restaurant, why we refused to talk to him and accused us of "not liking the Turkish" - he was so menacing one of our group went to get the gentlemen for protection! A very nasty experience which has put me of the harbour once again.

What a pity, on my first visit almost 6 years ago had a truly beautiful night out with friends. Food and views were fantastic. I must admit knew it wasn't going to be the cheapest of nights but at that time was well worth the extra lire. So sorry to hear the Carob has fallen by the wayside. Will make sure not to be caught out. To be honest now I am a more than regular visitor to TRNC have found lots of places where I love to go, so Carob eat your heart out.

No Rowlo, they will never learn. They just don't understand.

Shame, it used to be a really good restaurant.
