Been quoted 850TL for an Italian 1HP pump (fitted) with guarantee, rather than chinese without guarantee 650T, does that sound about right?

2 years ago I paid 925tl for a top quality Italian 1.5hp (45 meter head, 2" outlet) with 30 metres heavy duty waterproofed cable already attached. I got it from the Yapi market opposite Lemar in Karaoglanoglu.

Do not skimp on a well pump - they are murder to remove once all your cables and pipe work are installed.

My Chinese made 'Jet' 1 HP cylindrical submersible pump, which I paid almost 600TL for 3 years ago, only lasted 2 and a bit years. It started tripping the house RCD with increasing regularity, firstly half hourly, until this deteriorated to every five minutes - intolerable. When I hauled it out, I couldn't believe how much it had rusted, despite having been cleaned and oiled when hauled out twice before. I have been quoted 585 [not a Kurus less!] to replace this crap pump, and 800+ for similar Italian rubbish. Inquiries in the South yielded a quote for €220 for an Italian BBC 1HP, which, being Italian, sorry but I don't trust either.

There is an outfit in Lefkosa [can't remember the name right now], who sell Grundfoss, as the poster says, for just over 1000TL - they have a 'take it or leave it attitude' and won't give a 1 Kurus discount.

The problem is with these pumps is [to my knowledge] that nobody can service them in TRNC - the Chinese 'Jet' models cannot be dismantled.

We paid 750TL for our Italian pump recently but it was in replacement of another Italian pump which went wrong in year 1 and was fixed and then completely gave up the ghost this year (year 2).
