Sky news showing live coverage on line of the fire. Buildings almost gone. Very sad. Hopefully no one is hurt.

Been watching the live feed via the internet. As someone who's family is from Weston and who as a child/teenager spent many, many happy years holidaying there and playing on that very pier, I feel like I have watched a old friend die.

I know it's just a building but it meant a lot to me. I am sure the people of Weston will be deeply saddened, as will the many visitors who love the place.

I don't think they know but it took just over an hour for the pavilion to be destroyed. It's a huge structure so to see it destroyed so quickly is mindblowing. I think the firecrews realised that they weren't going to be able to save it from quite early on.

As you and Chessman have said, thankfully no-one was hurt. If it had happened in the evening, it doesn't bear thinking about...

I'm with Kitty1. Grew up around the area (Bristol and Brean) and used to spend a lot of time on the pier as a little one, then as a teenager all bank holidays were spent on and around the pier. such a shame to lose this.
