Hi all,

I am coming over in about 2 weeks and would like to know where i can find maps for the mountian trails. Otherwise if anyone can point me in the right direction for a start that would be great. I will be close to esentepe and am looking for trails 12+km preferably in the mountains.

Many thanks,

Marty

Your best bet would be to print them off Google Earth,I've walked every track between Karaagac and the Golf course and beyond and they have never failed to amaze me,there are a few steep climbs but the views are worth it.

Just go up there as you cannot really get too lost, we do and find all sorts of trails albeit that some of them come to a dead end at an old camp or something but to us that is the fun of it ............... exploring!

There is actually a book called Walks in North Cyprus, this would give you some guide but to be honest we have never used it but it will give you some ideas on distances etc.

Just remember which side the sea is on, take a phone, basic medical kit and refreshments and off you go as there are so many trails that the hunters use and firebreakers (which are generally the really steep ones) and have fun!

You will find it very hot running, even early evening. We did a route not off road but on the road up in the mountains above KAR dog rescue centre. You can do a route out and back of about 8 miles with some shade. Go up mountain pass turn left just after KAR, follow road for about a mile, then park up, nice route on tarmac road very little traffic. Take water, also good marked routes, for off road walking.

Terry,

Thanks, i'll certainly look for it and can't wait. No point me complaining about the heat i'm running accross the Sahara next year I'll be logging some routes on my GPS and loading them onto google earth afterwards if anyone is interested in them for use afterwards.

Are you a runner then Terry (laptarunner) and if so where do you run?

I have just gone back to UK after 2 months in Cyprus, will be back in late Sept/ early Oct, hoping to do Nicosia Half Marathon in Oct.

we live in Lapta as name suggests, we have a route about 6 miles from around the area, There is a brilliant route in mountains above Lapta, called the Tank route, you can drive up to the "Tank " park up and follow the road, first 2 miles good hard climb, some shade, brill views, and not a lot of traffic.

Enjoy.
