I insist on using Excel and word 2007 but I think I will throw in the towel and go back to Office 2003. The structure is so different. My latest problem is this: I click on a link from a web page and the word document opens in word 2007. It does not display the link url and therefore impossible to copy and paste it for others. I have to get back onto another computer with word 2003 in order to be able to do it. There must be an easier way, any ideas anybody?

Ismet,

You can choose which programmes your Browser will use to open different types of documents (files):

You can get at the settings in your browser by going to Tools>Options>Applications - it may vary slightly, depending on your browser...

I suppose that you could elect to use 'Word Reader' - but no doubt someone will have a better suggestion

I changed the settings to word pad but since the original document was in word, it opened in word. When I point the curser to the ling I can read the url at the bottom left but it becomes tedious to write it down by hand. Not possible to copy and paste it.

When you save your document it gives you various options of how you would like to save it.

You need to go to SAVE AS

then choose 97-2003 workbook

this wiil now save in this format which is what most people have, and even they have upgraded they can still open it.

I hope that is of some help!

michelle3012,

You are quite right - BUT - I think that Ismet's problem is that when he clicks on a 'hyper-link' on a web page, then it automatically OPENS in 'Word 2007' which doesn't seem to allow copy & paste operations on 'links'

Ismet - you COULD try another way of highlighting (selecting) the link: -

Click your cursor CLOSE to the link - say, 1 or 2 characters away from it. Then use the left or right cursor keys to move the cursor up against the link. Now press the 'Shift' key, and whilst holding it down use the cursor key to highlight/select all the characters in the URL (Tip: holding down the 'CTRL' key at the same time moves the cursor in 'chunks' for each press of the cursor key). You should now be able to copy (CTRL-C) & Paste (CTRL-V) the URL

I hope

Ismet,

I am an Office 2007 user. You say - "I click on a link from a web page and the word document opens in word 2007. It does not display the link url and therefore impossible to copy and paste it for others". Please send me an email containing the link from the web page you want to copy and paste for someone and I will see if I can overcome your problem. Have never had this problem myself and I would never go backwards from 2007 - there is so much on-line help with it (provided you have an official version) that makes it worthwhile.

Drop me a line and lets see if I can help you.

Keith,

I tried it but it does not work, I get the "no go" sign, the circle with a bar accross.

Wado,

I have just sent you an e.mail.

Now I will try the link provided by malsancak. Thanks everybody.

I too hate loathe and detest Office 2007 - how that is progress, how changing programmes that were crystal with programmes that are clear as mud - astounds me. Microsoft have the monopoly so hardly making it fair for competition in the market place............I simply cannot stand it, but can't afford to change it now.......
