I am going to start off by saying these singers are ok decent voices and what have you but, don,t you get fed up with the same old tunes being sung at you every time you sit down. You know 60s/70s/ Elvis, there,s only so many times you can listen to these before you start falling asleep over your garlic mushrooms, there are some out there who do alter their sets and good on you. Like I said I,m not knocking their vocal talents, just trying to get a bit of variety

I think you'll find, repetitive as you may criticise it, every guitarist [or any musician] has his/her own set repertoire - anywhere in the world.

You have to understand MUSIC + the limitations of one solo guitar, or even one group, to appreciate this fact!

'You can please ALL of the people SOME of the time, and you can please SOME of the people ALL of the time - but you can't please ALL of the people ALL of the time!'

Wasn't it Barnum, of Barnum & Bailey's Circus who said that?

Hi Everyone good morning

Two excellent posts both making fair points.

It always amazes me how many times the same artists get mentioned on this forum and with few exceptions my Wife and I have seen and sometimes enjoyed their perormance.

Having enjoyed the low profile Brian Delaney on many occassions for nearly fifteen years I have to say he is head and shoulders better than any of the regular artists entertaining in the North with a fantastic portfolio of songs ranging across every field of popular music.

regards

Doug

Johnnybgoode like I said I aint having a go at your ability to sing a song, and I wasn,t having a go at you as I have never seen you. What I am saying there is only so many times you can hear songs like Love me tender and such before they bear an uncanny resembalance to a dentists drill.

We have seen Brian and enjoyed his singing very much, he was playing at the Courtyard, where I believe he is a regular feature.

Each and every one of us has different tastes in music, I personally like rock as well as middle of the road, but hate country and jazz, each to his own

The good thing about it is, that there is variety on such a small island if you choose to look for it.

I have been reading this thread with interest. I am part of a new band and whilst putting our play list together we have tried to choose songs that are well know but rarely played by bands in the TRNC. We do have a couple that cross but you all have to start somewhere. The only trouble is that it takes time to build a repetoir. We currently have 2 sets ready and adding all the time. If you are looking for something a little different come down to the Red Lion Alsancak on Saturday and let me know what you think. Come and say hello, you will find me behind the drums.

I have heard very good reports of a new duo called Old Gold. Been told they are fantastic guitarists and plays a very different repertoire to must acts in NC.

to be totaly honest,

the singer/band will have many friends who see them week in week out, and most of us will have about 4 or 5 different sets of 45mins to 1hr for which these will be rotated on a weekly/monthly cycle so some times you will see the same entertainer doing the same songs, my sugestion try to very the entertainer that you see then you won't here the same songs week in week out, and as per elvis, elvis sang over 800 songs and most of these are available on backing track but out of those 800 only about 50 most people will know, and to be quite honest then your going to here more elvis as elvis is booked more than anyone else here, so venture out a little further, you may be surprised at what you hear.

Hi Everyone

What restaurant in NC is full every monday without fail ?

It's the Courtyard with their resident entertainer Brian Delaney, it really is the best evening of food and entertainment bar none.

The only thing that came close was Friday fish and chip night at the Fireman's Fez which also featured the one and only B.D.

With a trend for pop groups re forming why not someone (maybe The Fez) resurrecting the format.

I have just had a thought for Amanda at Shaynar Beach, this could be a great way to pack your restaurant out

Zero and Lilli thank you for your comments and support ! I enjoy playing but must say I am retired and finding things a little hectic at present. I am supposed to be compiling my own album for release in December and as yet have only managed 5 tracks (one of which is a regular at my concerts) ! I am a little different to the Crooner/karaoke stuff which seems to be so popular here especially in the west of Kirenia/Girne so doubt the popularity of my show there !!!! kind regards Barry

Snakes , you'd go down well anywhere. My grandad was an entertainer, he went down well on the Titanic.

So Snakes get your butt down this end.

Actually about time we did a big one for Charity. Down this end, then I wouldn't have so far to drive home.

zero how could i ever ever forget johnnylee, he is the best. most of the entertainers here willingly give thier time up for charity here. for that they should be appuladed. we do have great entertainers here and they should be supported. i have the most admiration for them x

Don't forget that Johnnie Hawkins is back at the Pia Bella every Saturday in August. This guy is amazing! His swing show is as good as anything you'll see on the professional circuit.

And who wouldn't like to see Funky Monkey again?

If he doesn't get your feet tapping you must be dead!

It's not a case of us liking crooner / karaoke stuff it's a case of thats all we get!

Come on bar owners in the West get Snakes in so we can find out for ourselves what they rave about in the east.

Thank You Lilli, Ive got 3 fans now, if I get to 10 we could start a fan club.

Do Groups etc. still have fan clubs. I suppose if they do it will be on the internet.

Not like the 60,s when you brought you NME, or looked in your sisters Jackie Mag.

Anyway Lilli I just enjoy what I do, (not so sure about the audience)

Hi Johnny Lee, you said it in your last line of message 30. "You just enjoy what you do". Nobody can ask for more. If you enjoy it, then it rubs off on the audience and they enjoy it.

I'm just the same when I do my disco's. If and when I stop enjoying it, then I'll pack it in. Hope that isn't for a long time yet though.

I don't understand why there is a reaction to this subject being broached. Are there certain issues that aren't allowed to be brought up? And why? And who says?

I thought this was a forum.

I apologise unreservedly. I was reading several posts at the same time. The response was meant for the other thread on entertainers. I have looked to see if I can delete the reply but it seems I can't.

Sorry.

If you like old classic rock tracks, but not the usual lot , then come along and listen to two really good guitarists. no drums , no backing just good old rock .......................
