Good morning! Can anyone please tell me if there will be many mosquitos in North Cyprus during late September / early October? We will be staying in a villa near Ozankoy close to olive groves. Many thanks.

This year seems very light on mosquitoes (so far...)

I've never heard of any correlation between mozzie numbers and proximity to olive groves... but stagnant water is something else.

Not as bad as previous years so sept/oct shouldnt be bad, local authorities seem to be spraying more.

Be careful where you sit at night and you should be all right if not get some styllex gel from any local pharmacy great for bites.

Also spray rooms before bed time with bug spray the odourless white tin stuff you get from any supermarket here " lemar" etc.

Hi ahw7403,

We have recently had fly screens fitted,

and there don't seem to bee many about at all this year :-(

But being able to leave the windows open 24/7 makes a big difference,

house is a lot cooler all the time, so no need for the air-con ))

As karakum5c says...

"Not as bad as previous years so sept/oct shouldn't be bad,

Remember, it's not just mozzies that will bite you, if in doubt, spray up

Enjoy your visit.

Many thanks to Groucho and karakum5c for prompt response and for good advice. Looking forward to the holiday in Ozankoy - it will be our first time in North Cyprus. We have been to Paphos, Kessonerga, & Coral Bay areas before, but the northern part ofCyprus is really the place we want to visit and perhaps investigate moving to live there.

"and there don't seem to bee many about at all this year :-( "

Many thanks Navek; I'll be keeping a lookout for all insects that bite and sting! We had some small lizards in our apartment near Paphos. It didn't half give the wife a fright - kept her quiet for an hour or so. There's a plus side too!

Can thoroughly recommend North Cyprus. Came here for a holiday for the first time two years ago, with no thought of buying, and have just moved into our own villa a couple of weeks ago.

As for mozzies, they seem to love me (it must be the quality) and I am working on ways to combat this. Does not put me off though.

Good luck with your visit.

Hi BarryBoy, we also liked Kissonerga and stayed for 10 days at the Anna Apartments. We also did a mini cruise to Israel and Egypt, which was fantastic. My dearly departed Mum was from North Wales, so I am half Welsh and half Scottish.... what a combination!

hi ahw7403

I have just bought two little devices. Aparently guaranteed to stop mozzie bites.

Solar powered and they emit a male mosquito noise which deters the females from coming near...aparently the females are the ones that bite.

They have a 4metre radius so I intend to clip it to me bag as I walk about and lay it beside my bed at night.

If I come back bitten as usual...those mosquitos just love me...I'll sue!

all mossies send a group email to let each other know I have arrived.

Just get into the way of 'mossieing up' (protecting yourself with usual stuff - sprays, roll ons etc) before going out, dont leave the doors open with the lights on and use plug ins overnight. Sorted! Beware- afternoon drinking tends to make you forget to 'mossie up in good time. Otherwise have a fabby hol!

ps pharmacists here are just so brill at dispensing the right treatment if you need it!Forget Anthisan - they have so so much better topical creams.
